This discussion has, for the most part, centered on the appropriateness of public nudity. I am clearly someone not in favor of it. (Doesn't mean I couldn't list off the names of 50 actresses I wouldn't horribly object to seeing nude. ) The biggest part of my objection, however, is where she choose to do this. Dealey Plaza is a very special place and has a lot of history and emotions attached to it. I see it as very disrepsectful to the memory of a fallen President.

 

I will assume, for the point of discussion, that Jim Schue disagrees with me. We're pretty much at opposite ends of the conservative-liberal spectrum, I think. If so (or for anyone else, for that matter), I have a question for you:

 

Let's say one of the premier "artists" out there today (you pick the name - no doubt I will not have heard of them ) decides to make a video in a cemetery. Just happens to be a cemetery where some of your relatives are buried. The deep message of the song is something along the lines of burying the painful memories of your past or some other drivel. To help illustrate the point, the "artist" pees on some graves. Unfortunately, your parents' graves get peed on. OK or no?

Did Ms. Badu face any reprocussions for her actions. If not I think it is a double standard. I'm pretty sure that if I was to walk around downtown Dallas with my junk hanging out, I would likely be arrested.

Not my point. How they felt about it isn't the issue I'm getting at. My question was how do you feel about those images of nudity being in movies and documentaries that are shown on regular TV?

 

Not obscene and I would encourage my children to watch to learn from them. Naked in and of itself is not obscene.

Why? It's an artistic expression done to make a meaningful point. No one was really harmed by it. Technically illegal - just like public indecency - but not a serious crime. The pee will wash right off during the next rain.

I never said it was acceptable, just what did she mean by it. That was my question. I don't think anyone should be allowed to walk nude down the street in Dallas. Been to Miami beach multiple times and nudity is accepted and normal so that doesn't bother me. Odd isn't it.

People I've loved have seen my nude body... I don't urinate on them. We're not in to that kind of thing..

Technically, I never said she was "stupid" or even "unintelligent". I only said that she apparently wasn't bright enough to convey her message of individuality without keeping her clothes on, violating public indecency laws, and disrespecting the site of an assassinated President. She may be a Rhodes Scholar, for all I know.

 

But I'd bet against it.

Though I'm sure you'd agree that there are people who are into it and don't find a thing wrong with it. Are they wrong?

 

My point was not to draw a parallel between her public nudity and public peeing, but moreso towards the issue of where she did it and where the person in my scenario peed. I don't see how one is right and one is wrong. They are either both or neither disrespectful/inappropriate.
