Serious question: Most everyone has seen movies such as "Schindler's List" or documentary footage of Jewish people in the concentration camps, with footage of prisoners, alive and dead, nude. Is this obscene?

I don't have the slightest problem with nude beaches. None whatsoever. If I could convince my wife to go to one, I would (not a snowball's chance). But you know going into that situation that you will see nudity. I shouldn't show up at a public beach and have my kids exposed to it. If I WANT them exposed to it, there are places to accomplish that and I get to make the choice on my own. I shouldn't have that situation/decision thrust upon me.

I'm asking because I'd honestly like to hear.

Fair enough. And again, I won't. You can wrap trash in a pretty package and bows and even call it "art" (yes, that's what she is - an "artist"), but it's still trash. IMO, of course. I'm sure to others their life will be changed by her stimulating message. A message that she apparently is not bright enough to convey with her clothes on.

Have you ever listened to her music before? I like how you dismiss someone's intelligence based on the fact that she took her clothes off. In fact, Badu is an extremely intelligent person and as RM put it so well:

What was obscene was their treatment, the nudity had nothing to do with it being obscene. At that point they could care less about their own nudity.

I do disagree with her decision to force her nudity on the people walking the streets. If someone wanted to see her nude, they would have bought her a drink.

 

This could have been done in a studio or atleast a privat location with extras. Does she have any daughters ? How would she feel had a grown man walked up and exposed himself to her daughter and claimed it was art ?

So see, the children should be lucky, they won't end up a porn freak like me!

As to the second, I know she has at least one child with Andre 3000 and I'm pretty sure she has more with other men. Considering she discussed it with her children and their fathers I'd say she'd be ok with it (but I can't speak for her as I do not know her personally).

Oh . . . I got it. You disagree my questioning her intelligence level, but you yourself are certain she's "extremely intelligent"? :lol: And you know this because Rockmom posted that blurb about her? :lol: Or from her extraordinarily insightful songs?

I don't care one way or another. Like I said, I don't share those Puritanical hang-ups about nudity the way the rest of our society does. By the same token, that doesn't mean I go walking around the neighborhood nude, but I wouldn't go calling the cops if I saw somebody else doing it either.

 

 

 

Kids aren't born with hang-ups about nudity. They're taught — the same way their parents, and their parents before them were — that the human body is some mystical thing to be feared and rejected, covered in shame, rather than embraced (no pun intended). If we didn't, as a society, have all these hang-ups about nudity and sex in general, I'd be willing to bet that incidents of rape and other sexual abuse would reduce dramatically. Of course, we know that isn't going to happen any time soon because that teaching comes from churches, so it is what it is.

 

Wow. Because the rest of society doesn't share the views of the world according to Jim Schue, we all have problems and "hang-ups"? Somebody sure thinks a lot of himself.

 

I've never taught my kids that the body should be feared or covered "in shame." Frankly, I don't know any people that have taught their kids such things. I'm sure such people exist, they just don't happen to be the crowd with whom my wife and I socialize. We have taught our kids to respect their bodies, appreciate the beauty and intricasies of them; that sex is not dirty, but is a special act reserved for marraige; and that a little humility in covering the body is appropriate.

 

My 16-year old doesn't go out with half her tata's sticking out above her shirt. She's got as slinky a bathing suit as most of her friends and when she's at the pool that's fine and appropriate. When she goes to school, she's not going to look like some street tramp seeking to earn a quick $10. If you find this ridiculously conservative, so be it. I can certainly live with leading my life different than you so choose.

 

And if you feel it would be a great idea to have your daughter (no clue if you actually have one - I'll assume not) prance around outside naked at will, or see 100 naked guys the next time you and her go to the mall together, then that's wonderful. I hope I don't have to live in your world, but if it works for you, great.

 

And you have absolutely no empirical data to back your statement that the world would be a much safer place if everyone walked around bucknaked. Just as strong a theoretical case could be made that it would cause a marked increase in sex-related crimes.

I won't be taking my family to a nude beach any time soon and since public beaches don't allow nudity - pretty much because that is what society as a whole wants - I don't have to worry about looking the other way.

 

I've seen the controversial part of the video and read plenty about it, certainly enough to make a reasonably-informed comment about it. I'll try to live with you not respecting my opinion on this.

Not my point. How they felt about it isn't the issue I'm getting at. My question was how do you feel about those images of nudity being in movies and documentaries that are shown on regular TV?
