March 28, 201016 yr Drove to Cedarville, Ohio to a track meet today, and saw a fundraiser that was a new one to me. One of the little towns we drove through (Wilmington, I think) had signs everywhere advertising a big sale on matresses for the high school band boosters.
March 28, 201016 yr What is a Boston Butt and Chicken? Ever had pulled pork BBQ? The Boston Butt is the cut that meat comes from. Are there no chickens in Pendleton Co.? Even native New Yorkers know what those things are.
March 28, 201016 yr I’ve been an FBLA advisor for years and we have never ask the kids to pay anything other than their food when we to go to compete at the State Leadership Conference. This year our Regional registration fees tripled (going from $7 per student to $20), transportation fees are up, and we had more kids than ever before qualify for State. I spent several sleepless nights trying to figure out how I was going to pay for it without asking the kids to pay their hotel costs. The idea I came up with was I designed a “State Bound” t-shirt like one of the sports teams would do. And we sold “Sponsorships” to the local businesses. We added the cost of the t-shirt to the sponsorship fee and gave the Sponsors a “free” t-shirt. We also sold the shirts for $10 apiece to anyone else that wanted one. We have raised enough to pay the hotel fees at the Galt House.

March 28, 201016 yr We have done a couple of successful fundraisers. Twice, we have had a pig roast in our backyard. We got some financial sponsors ( $1000 and $500.00 mostly from alumni) and also charged $50.00 per person. All the cash is up front. In return our guests had open bar, food and music. Naturally we got as much donated as possible. Even though it cost a lot up front, there were no raffles, auctions, etc....no games at all, so our guests didnt feel pressured to spend more. We raised $20,000 and $25,000 respectively in one night. I think most people had a really good time. It is a lot of work and constant worry over the weather, but we got lucky both times with great weather. Our Band Boosters sell mulch every year. They deliver and stack it for you. I dont know how much they make, but it must be worth it because they have been doing it for years.

March 28, 201016 yr How did you pay for the costs before?The fundraising we had done before; candy, bake sales, ect. had covered everything in the past. We were hit with the news of the increased Regional fees in January. Our bill for Regional registration in 2009 was just over $200, in 2010 they were over $900. That hit our funds hard.

Yes, it was for the Beechwood Educational Foundation. Liquor can be served as long as the event is not on school property, and of course, adults only are invited.
