Mason County crowd?

Featured Replies

There's a thread already started about Scott County's lack of a crowd, but where was Mason County's crowd for the whole tournament? I mean 13,000 for the semi's against SV, they had just a little more for the other two games before that and what they had was kind of on the quiet side compared to years past. Was it lack of a Lofton-Miller or 10th region backlash because so many other counties fans in the 10th region used to follow the Royals to the state tournament but may be getting tired of them going year after year? What say you?

I think they were more spread out this. I sat in a corner area(section 35) and there were empty seats around us that were filled when it was time for Mason County to play those seats were filled with Mason blue as were other empty seats throughout the arena. I also sat next to Clark County fans the whole tourney. I think they were more spread out this year.

I think a lot of people, are finally just starting to see what this economy has done to your everyday hard working citizens.

After paying the mortgage, the utilities bills and buying the groceries, there just isn't much left over and what little there is, is saved, just in case your number comes up at the shop, factory or office!

No one and I mean no one is putting an extra $200.00/$400.00 on a credit card and thinking of paying it off whenever!

It's totally a shame, but it's also why you didn't see New Orleans totally packed with the Big Blue Fog.

Times are tough and getting tougher.......and your Joe Average family is getting concerned/scared even if they have a job!

Maybe the $10 parking kept folks away.

There's one way to change that...:D

Not to generalize, but we were in the Golden Corral late Friday afternoon. A tall gentleman was sitting alone at the table next to us and we struck up a conversation (I'll pretty much talk to anyone, anywhere). He said that he was from Bourbon County and played in the Sweet 16 in 1962, and was there to root for Mason County as the 10th Region representative.

I think that theoldguy's observation about the economy has some merit. Also, I've seen in mentioned that this year's field didn't have quite the level of talent than in years past. Would a superstar UK signee have put another thousand or two in the stands?

All valid points but let's take it a step lower. I haven't noticed a lot of support for high school basketball games in general over the last 5 years. You can go to any Friday night game in any gym and pretty much sit where you want. Is it just like everything else? Are there just more things to do to occupy our kids time? Do families just not do things together as much?

Parked by Joe Bologna's for free and did what a lot of people need to do instead of eating five ice creams cones per session:idunno:, I walked on beautiful days.:thumb:

Just because it's blue doesn't mean it's Mason Blue, I wore blue a couple days and it was because I like blue.

Most Mason fans are fair weather fans and only show up when they think they have a chance at winning. They won't show up if they're playing a 9th region team either (per their fans).:ylsuper:

Some UK fans could always sell their food stamps and spend the cash they make on odd jobs while they draw unemployment checks for the next 12 months to pay for tickets.:sssh::irked::madman:

Would only happen,(maybe) if Scott County and Clark County switch regions, because the CC Cards have proven they can't do it.:walk:

I was there for every Mason game as always and even came back (a little down) for the title game..But your right there is a lot of fair weather Mason fans I will agree...

The yellow coats made them move to the other side of the arena and they all got mad and went home.

Mason fans don't think Rupp is a good enough place for the tournament and think it should be moved to the fieldhouse. :D

Seriously, when you go 7 out of 10 years or whatever it is, I'd guess the luster isn't the same. It's a shame because I'd say this year's Mason Co. team overachieved as much as any I can remember. They deserved a bit more support in my opinion.

Yes, but they were in the FINAL FOUR against one of the best mountain teams to come around in a decade, with a standout throwback player, shouldn't this have brought out even the most fair weather of Mason County fans after their exciting victory over Clark County. I still think they miss those 5,000 or so fans from other 10th region schools that used to follow them to the state tournament, surely there has been no one there from Winchester over the past two years?

They've went from overachiever like they were in the 80's and 90's to the Duke of the 10th region, but thought this year's team was like those 80's teams.

Mason County's fan support is still very strong but probably was less than normal this year at the tournament do to several factors. The main reason is that the week of the tournament was our school system's spring break this year so many people had planned other trips. Many of our fans attend the entire state tounament, so we are spread out throughout lower arena. I think it was a factor that our teams style of play is not as fun to watch as in past years. I think the economy also played a factor and I definitely think that we are spoiled with our own recent success. UKs success this year, with Darius playing, has also detracted from our support. I don't like any of these but its just the way it is.
