The Rich Pay More Taxes

The founding fathers paid much more "lip service" to the God of Scripture than practical implementation. We didn't honor "God's Laws" many times and still came away with blessing. BTW, I'm all for using Scripture only as the mandate for our Government. Let's start with observation of the "Year of Jubilee." :thumb:

I am ready for the Year of Jubilee.

Give me one link that says this. I have 50 youth in my building, about 5 have a computer at home. Almost all have a cell phone that runs out of minutes in about a week (as does their parents, but it beats paying a regular phone bill every month). Several have had their electricity cut-off for some amount of time this year, hardly any actually own their houses.

LESS THAN 1% OF THE FEDERAL BUDGET GOES TO WELFARE PROGRAMS OUTSIDE OF MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY. WHERE IS THIS MASS REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH. LESS THAT 1%. GOODNESS GRACIOUS.

Just curious on how much of the state budget goes to welfare programs.

Does your federal welfare programs of 1% included such programs as free and reduced lunch, scholarship programs, etc, etc.

Not saying anything is wrong with those programs at all but wondering if your 1% really covers the redistribution of wealth but rather just someone getting a check?

And I find it interesting that your idea of suffering is having their cell phones run out of minutes and they don't have a computer.

Both of my parents grew up without electricity, a phone, indoor plumbing and all 10 of their siblings sharing the SAME BATH WATER in a tub. They worked on a farm raising their food and did not have a car to get to town. And they didn't have a cell phone to run out of minutes on nor a computer.

Lyndon Johnson began the federal government war on poverty in 1964. The percentage of poor dropped slightly in the decade that followed, but has remained steady since. Nearly five decades and couple trillion dollars later, the problem remains. If government is the answer, why is poverty still the problem it is today?

Jesus said we will always have poor.

We should strive as Christians to help but realize that problem we ain't going to solve.

Apparently Jesus is no Obama...
You apparently have never been an 8-15 year old living in abject poverty in the 2000s.

And for 99% of the 8-15 year olds living in poverty in this country, there are 8-15 year olds in Africa that would think they are living in wealth.

I can agree with most of that.

But it doesn't explain your defense of the Founding Fathers' ignorance of the humanitarian issues of slavery or the rights of women. You defend them by saying it was the times they lived in. But Judeo-Christian values haven't changed since then.

I agree with you RM.

And on the bolded, there many liberal Chrisitans who use that same mindset to justify abortion.

Please note that I have yet to begin talking about the suffering, I was responding to a previous post. So your response to my response does not include that.

If you read the link, if you include lunch programs and student loans (which hit the middle class, who also pay taxes so that is redistribution, plus it is a loan, and pell grants) the amount the Federal government spends on social welfare does creep up somewhere near 5%. Still not a massive redistribution of wealth that everyone clamors about.

As for how much the state spends, I don't recall anyone calling Steve Beshear a socialist, we are talking about the federal government re-distributing wealth.

I agree with you RM.

Or who don't believe abortion to be murder. No belief of a soul in fetus or anything like that.

Does it not bother you that this source, if accurate, is giving statistics from the early 90's? Once again, how much redistribution has to occur for it to be unjust? What is 1% of 3,000,000,000,000?

Yes. Would love to see current numbers after almost two decades of spending growth.

How many of these kids live in families that have both parents?

How many of these kids live in families were there is no alcohol or drug abuse or gambling problems or an abusive parent?

How many of these kids live in families with good role models?

Because of your job situation you see the worst and think the rest of the world is in the same situation. There are all sorts of government programs out there and spending more tax money is not going to have the same effect as a good home environment.

If you or they believe no soul in a fetus, explain John the Baptist reacting from his mother's womb while coming in contact with Jesus in his mother's womb?

Didn't catch that. Thanks.

That does affect the usefulness of this information.

The problem here, and I will side with acemonia, is none of that is the children's fault. THey are trying sometimes with a great deal of effort and sometimes not, to overcome situations that they have no control.

I have no problem in government helping kids whether it is through health care, meal programs, scholarship programs, etc.

I'll agree with helping those who are too young to help theirselves. Yet somehow they must realize they must do something to overcome the bad decisions many parents made in their lives. Bad decisions that put the lives of these young people in less than desirable situations.

These same young people now have to make decisions that can lead them away from the same bad decisions their parents made.
