March 16, 201016 yr Jesus said we will always have poor. We should strive as Christians to help but realize that problem we ain't going to solve. Jesus said that in reference to the urgency of the cross approaching and the sacrifice he was about to make. It might be noted he said it to Judas who was upset over money being wasted and then the sidenote is stated that Judas kept the purse and pilfered from it. Jesus nor God's Word ever intended that statement to be an excuse that NOTHING be done.

If you feel the verb "strive" is not strong enough, I could see that. It should be one of our main missions to help the poor.
