March 11, 201016 yr In the past it was used as a put down towards blacks. Saying all they eat is fried chicken and watermelons. I know so older blacks that will not eat watermelon because of this. I understand that stereotype, but it wasn't used in that manner from what I can tell.

The point of the thread is that if a conservative or republican would have said the same thing it would be blown completely out of context by the main stream media. if Rush Limbuagh or Mitch McConnel has said the exact same words, there would have been a media blitz on it for days. That's the main point. It doesn't matter what liberals say, the media will either ignore it or have a few seconds on it. Let a republican say the same thing and it's a STORY. Many BGP'ers are the same. You make excuses for democrats and cut the throats of republicans...So what else is new? Double standard? Hypocrisy? Either one fits.

You MUST admit there is a double standard from the media when gaffes or comments made out of context come from the right. Surely!

March 11, 201016 yr Don't let the non passage of regulations fool you, ... this is going to be making a big comeback. The bill is being rewritten as we speak. The government is going to need more money to pay for the increased expenditures and taxing coal fired plants will be one way to do it. Cap and Trade will ultimately be paid by doubled, tripled, quadrupled utility bills and other expenses pased on to us. This idiotic legislation, based on junk science and spreading fear over global warming... now "Climate Change" will do more to shut down our economy and destroy jobs than anything else being discussed currently.

Since alot of what they want are things bad for the US that is OK in many cases. But this lack of ability will hurt in many areas that we all need success - think national defense. Lets look at the record of things that the administration wanted and failed: Chicago Olympic bid - failed Heavy campagning for Virginia Gov Race - failed Heavy campaigning for NJ Gov Race - failed Campaigning for Mass special election - failed HC done by end of summer - failed HC done by end of the year - failed KSM civilian trial in NY - failed Cap and trade - failed Iran containment - failed Stimulas package to keep unenployment below 8% - failed TSA nomination - failed Van Jones Czar appointment - failed If this administration was a craps table the safer bet would be the "Dont pass" line. I realize this list could be quite extensive, but two more Obama strikes deserve to be included: Obama bet Canadian Prime Minister Harper a case of beer over the outcome of the US-Canada Gold Medal Hockey game at the Olympics... the US lost. Obama called UK to congratulate them on earning their first #1 ranking in a long time... the Cats went out and lost their next game and their #1 ranking. This guy has a reverse Midas touch... :eek:

It would have been a bigger deal had Limbaugh said it considering his inflammatory employment of race in the past. Other than that, or someone else equally controversial on the subject, I don't think it would have been a big deal. As far as hypocrisy, there was a period a month or so ago where I couldn't look at a piece of media without seeing a discussion of Harry Reid's fairly innocuous comment about Obama, so I don't exactly see a double-standard. And the uproar over this comment has warranted a lengthy response from Rather, as well.

And Rather took the time to pen a lengthy response, so I'm assuming he's catching flack over it. Other than that I haven't seen anything.

And that IMO is exactly what Limbaugh takes great glee in pointing out. He uses over the top humor to point out the hypocrisy and double-standard. I genuinely do not believe he is a racist... but he most certainly enjoys exposing the racism in the ones who claim to have the moral high ground on the issue. Great thread nWo! :thumb:
