Boone County 42 Ryle 41

I've watched Sidney play now 6 or 7 times and am still amazed at her freakish athletic ability. some of the passes thrown to her seemed to be way over her head and she can go up and get them with 3 defenders around her. Her hands are like velcro. Jumping up to steal an inbounds pass for an easy lay-up. Everything is just effortless for her. Very very fun to watch.

I felt Ryle coach should have sat Jenna after 2 fouls in the first half but instead let her get a 3rd. I also would have brought her back in earlier in the 4th qtr. Dawn Johnson was not involved enough to utilize her athletic ability.

Absolutely correct. I'm surprised the Ryle faithful aren't questioning the coaching move rather than blaming the ref's. She should have sat earlier, dropped back into the zone much earlier, and put her back on the floor "if" the game appeared to be getting away.

I've seen BC, Ryle, and NCC this week...none of them looked very good. I'm sure a lot was due to the intense rivalries (big stage) I'm sure; however, "all" 3 teams looked very beatable and I did not see a clear-cut favorite. Winning the region will require consistency and some luck...so this thing is up in the air.

I have to say it's easier to blame the refs than it is to get any coach to listen to a fans ideas. Ha, Ha. I agree with what most have said. I would have benched Jenna in the 1st half with 2 fouls also. I would have used the many bench players to run at Moss and at least try to wear her down and use about 20 fouls fron the reserves. Sydney does not defend Jenna in a one on one situation, why defend Sydney with Jenna and put her in a position to get fouls? Dawn does a great job but she needs to learn how to finish. She is young and that will come. Do not press Boone! It hasn't worked in 2 games. All it does is open up more easy layups for Moss. Ryle needs to rotate the ball on offense quicker and slash the post more often. I love their tenacity but to be champions you need to develop mental toughness. Shall I continue?

bballgirl says....Ryle did well to keep it close with number 35 on the bench but i just dont understand how you can say they know they can beat them when boone has came up with two wins in two tries...

I say that because Ryle lost by 1 point with Crittendon on the bench for a long time... It's tough to beat a team three times in one season. Ask Highlands from two years ago...

Ryle did not force the 1 and 1 situation either way soon enough and caused a forced shot at the end. Poor game management at the end. The Raiders will be fine and I'm proud to support them. Patti and Chris are great and Ryle fans don't have to be embarrassed about their head coach's behavior setting such a terrible example. Love to watch all the girls give it all and special props to Dawn Johnson - wow - intense and tough!!

I think a wk or two ago someone said "press them if you have a good press, they have only one ballhandler". I believe it was you. Has something changed in that time or is sandlin and co. that good at breaking the press.

I may have said that. Sandlin is too fast to keep bottled up. i don't blame Ryle for starting in the press, I just felt that after seeing it was not as effective as it has been against other teams to back up and set your defense. Sydney had 21 first half points and most went uncontested.

Ryle has a decent press and NCC has a real good press...it will be interesting to see how effective the press is going to be on a college floor. Sandfoss and Sandlin will slice-up most presses by themselves on a HS floor. It will take a lot of gas out of the tank on that floor and one of them will have to do it on back-to-back night's potentially.

First girl's game I watched this year, so hard to tell if Ryle had a "good" or "decent" press, but this much was clear - however good it may or may not be, it wasn't particularly effective against Boone last night and resulted in plenty of uncontested bunny shots for Moss under the basket. Not the strategy I would employ if they get to meet up again.

It was effective in the 4th qtr in the first game and I'm sure that factored into the decision to open this game with the same press...I absolutely agree they sat in it too long.

Every game I have seen Boone play this year is the same, press them and it is over the top to Moss for a lay in. Sandlin is crafty and Moss has the skills to catch the long pass and take it to the promised land.

Been hearing that for years somewhere...oh yea, ESPN.

Now that is funny.

I checked with someone who had no dog in the fight and he also happens to know how to watch a game from a rules perspective. His opinion was that the player control foul on Crittenden was a no-brainer. He also felt she stole one earlier when it could have/should have been a block but it went player control on Boone.

I heard exactly the same thing. My imformant said he was baffeled she didn't play with a little more caution after getting her 2nd foul. Also heard she could have been called for another charge that was called a block as was mentioned.

I hate to see that anytime a team loses a close game the first thing people go off on is the officiating. Instead of this thread being about what appears to have been a terrific game it turns into finger pointing. If Ryle takes care of business they may get another chance at Boone.

I would like to apologize for saying anything at all about the refs. This is the first time I ever recall mentioning refs in a game outcome. And, it won't happen again. The fact is: you must figure out how to win a game. Refs will always make mistakes, blown calls, bad calls, missed calls - it is part of the game. No excuses. Boone won. We lost. Congrats to Boone. And, let's do what it takes to earn a rematch.

Wish more people had your attitude. Look forward, not back.

Seriously, did you watch the entire game? Ryle pressed the entire game and caused alot of TO's by Boone. Boone got some early layups but Ryle adjusted

and gave up none after that. In the second half while continuing to press

Ryle held Boone to 5 field goals and thirteen total points. IMO the press

wore Boone down in the second half and kept them fro getting comfortable

in the half-court offense. Personally think Boone would have scored alot more running a half court offense the entire second half.
