Maybe now Lafayette can gain much more well deserved respect for this season and the way they have played....nobody gave them any chance of winning this game....they won with more heart, better coaching, and overall hustle and courage.

I recognize that Lafayette is a very good team, but Lexington Catholic was considered the superior team by almost everyone, and had not failed to make a regional tournament in 24 years. That qualifies this as fairly shocking.

 

My sentiments exactly. Congrats to Lafayette... As stated, it has been a long time since Catholic lost out in the first round, so this is a major shocker to me. But... obviously this is a very tough district.

I agree with your post in that Eric Shaw did a nice job on Tanner Peurach, but he was on him a limited amount of time since Peurach got into foul trouble.

 

Lexington Catholic showed early in the game they had no interest in running their offense through their center who had a huge advantage in the post.

 

It is easy for me to say now, but I said at the time I thought it was the wrong strategy on Lexington Catholic's part.

 

That had to be frustrating to watch for a Lex. Catholic fan.

That is the most championships in the history of the Sweet 16. Bet many didnt realize that.

Same here...pretty sure I picked Scott Co to win the region for this exact same reason. Felt LC would struggle inside the district with Lafayette.

Lex Cath's center pretty much had his way with the Davis kid(8th grader). Davis just wasnt big enough physically or experienced enough to handle him. On the other hand when Lafayette inserted Shaw in his place it was a different story.

 

Shaw is only 5'10" but he is built like a brick wall. Looked like to me that the center for Lex Cath didnt like the physical play of Shaw. Shaw was pushing him out of the lane everytime he tried to post up, was bumping and running with him everytime he tried to run off of a screen and was all together on him like paper on a wall. There were several times where Shaw beat the Lex Cath kid to the spot where he was trying to get. Seemed like to me that Shaw really had him frustrated and Lex Cath didnt seem to know how to operate without him being able to get the ball?

 

Great win for Lafayette in a great game to witness!!!

 

Lexcath has traditionally struggled against teams who are physical defensively and attack the rim offensively.
