Final in overtime

Wow huge win for GRC! Have a feeling this win had alot to do with the emotions of the kids after losing a fellow senior student earlier this week!

All Ballard early. 30-20 halftime lead by Ballard. Vinny Zollo hits game tying jumper with 4.1 seconds to go to put it in overtime. GRC down by as many as 18. Stentzel leads the Cards with 24 tonight. Awesome comeback, awesome atmosphere, awesome win!!!! Go CARDS!!!!

Well, how does Les feel about this?

Great win for the Cards!! They finally got over the hump. If they showed up the first 6 minutes of the game they would have won in regulation. Lets see how Les can turn this one into a negative. :popcorn:

Finally!!! Where you at Les? Guess this score may finally give the nay sayers something to chew on. What a way to send off our ONLY senior Chase Kindred. I'm getting word from Les now that there were last minute changes. The game was supposed to have Big East refs but used SEC instead. This explains the outcome.

 

Good win for GRC. I'm sure Ballard would rather lose now than in two weeks. Could end up being a positive omen for both teams.

Great win for GRC! Ballard is a quality team. Clark Co. seems to be playing their best ball at the right time of the year. I wish I would have made the trip to Clark Co. I missed a great game!

Just got in from the game, I am so hyped. Man what a game!!!! What a come back from the Cards, what heart this team has. Stenzel had 22 of his 24 points in the second half. Zollo had 22, Kindred had 6. Kindreds 2 biggest points were foul shots in OT. Hope to have full stats later. My son got these for me off the radio.

With Shelby Valley's loss, if Clark can take care of business in their region, I would think they have a great chance to advance in the state!

The final Friday night of the boys' high school basketball regular season saw two of Kentucky's top-ranked teams battle into overtime in Winchester.

Host Clark County, No. 4 in The Courier-Journal's Litkenhous Ratings, edged top-ranked Ballard 80-76.

Robbie Stenzel had 22 points and Vinny Zollo 22 points and 17 rebounds for the victorious Cardinals (22-6), while Ian Chiles led the Bruins with 22 points.

Chiles hit two free throws with seven seconds left in regulation to put Ballard up 64-62. After a long inbounds pass and a timeout, Clark County inbounded the ball to Zollo, whose 17-foot shot from the right baseline went in as time expired to force overtime.

The game was close early in OT, but the Cardinals - aided by 9 of 10 free throw shooting in the extra period - pulled away late.

The two teams could meet again in the Sweet 16 March 17-20 in Lexington if Ballard (24-4) wins the Seventh Region and Clark County (22-6) wins the Tenth, and both teams reach the championship game.

"It was a fun atmosphere; it probably prepared us both for the postseason," said Ballard coach Chris Renner. "They made a gerat play to put it into overtime, and made the plays down the stretch."

Clark County finally gets the signature victory that they have been looking for all year!! We have played all of the top teams close, except Lexington Catholic. It was a great atmosphere at the game tonight. The GRC team was probably playing with extra emotion, considering the tragic death of a fellow classmate this week!! Go Cards!!
