For the record, I never said I would pick Durant, I'd actually go with Giant Tool ...I'm just saying that a legit arguement can be made for Durant, and he would be a good choice.

 

Well, my main gripe was that in my first response to you I stated: "Not to me", which would state that IMO though Durant is an easy #2 to me, I don't see the comparison. I said earlier in the thread that I was biased, and in another thread yesterday I said that I was extremely biased when talking about LeBron.

 

I think a case can be made, however I wouldn't personally take it. But, I know that my personal bias can get in the way, I've been a LBJ fan since he was a sophomore in HS (which I guess would have made me in like the 7th grade?).

But, it's not all Durant IMO, even though he's easily their most important ingredient. Westbrook is really coming into his own, with 16 ppg and nearly 8 assists. Jeff Green is averaging about 15 and Harden is getting better and better with his average up to about 10. It's a good young nucleus.

 

Durant and Westbrook may be the best young duo in the league.

I would take LeBron's supporting cast right now over Durant's. I agree, Durant has more talent around him, but it's still too young and inexperienced at this point. In a couple years though, look out.

I agree with that, though I would take Westbrook over any of the Cavs guards (maybe not to play with LeBron, but from a talent standpoint). If the Thunder can get a big man they will be a contender for many years in the future. I think the potential they have may be better than anyones for the upcoming years.

Right now it's LBJ, especially in light of how he has carried the team in spite of recent injuries to the suporting cast (most notably Mo Williams).

Both Lebron & Durant have a great argument from a numbers perspective.

 

Both are equally important to their team. Which is why the 43-11 Cleveland Cavs' star will win over the 30-21 Thunder's star. Lebron has led the Cavs to the best record at the break, which is why it's a no brainer right now.

 

As of now, it's Lebron James.

True, just pointing out that while OKC has more wins this year than last, they still aren't a top tier team while Cleveland is still a top tier team that is even better than last year's team. Thus the term Most Valuable Player. While OKC is better than last year they are simply beating the Sacramento's and New Jersey's that they were losing to last year. If that qualifies one for MVP, so be it.

Probably could. I've always felt like there are a handful of guys in each sport that are equally valuable to their teams. In that situation, I think the best player should win the award. There's no doubt about who the best player in the NBA is right now. If Lebron James doesn't win the award, it's a sham.

Whether the Cavs have a better supporting cast or not won't matter much...the MVP most often goes to the guy on the best team, typically the team with a legit shot at a title. OKC isn't there yet.

I actually think that this is how I feel as well. It is kind of hard to gauge how valuable a player is to his team most years.
