Economic Disaster: Two Years Down, How Much Longer?

Featured Replies

so we've moved from "what tax cut" to . . . that tax liability reduction has got to stop.

Obviously is caused you some pain because you have been complaining about it for so long. And we hate to have money in the hands of people who actually spend it.

 No, we hate to see people that don't pay taxes get tax breaks. It's moronic.

Because it causes you so much pain?

There was the tax cut that you should have seen throughout your paycheck over the course of the year.

There was the "Making Work Pay" credit.

Those are two that I'm aware of.

People scoff at the ~$20 per paycheck, but over the course of 26 pay periods for me, That was $520, plus the $600 work pays credit. (I think it was $600).

That's approximately $1100 I got to keep this year.

If you received both, one has to be repaid...

No, because it makes zero sense to give those who don't pay taxes free money.

If you received both, one has to be repaid...

What do you mean? 95% of Americans received more on their paychecks throughout the year. At filing, I was eligible for the Work Pays credit. What do I repay?

Maybe you were talking about something else, but people who receive the Work Pays credit and Economic Recovery Credit, have to repay the ERC ($250)...

Oh. I didn't get the ERC.

I'm talking about the reduction in the taxes taken our of your paycheck.

Oh, yeah, I thought you were talking about something else. I believe as 75 said, that should equate to roughly 400 bucks. Nothing amazing, but certainly helpful.

You're making no sense whatsoever here. Explain please. Are you telling me that people that don't pay taxes deserve a tax break?

Yes, because while they may not pay income taxes, they pay plenty other taxes.

That's absurd. Compared to those that do pay income taxes, they pay very little taxes since they have less money to spend. So why should they get a break?

Aren't they already getting their break by not having to pay income taxes?

No it is not.

I will ask again. Did the $13 (or whatever the number) extra in your check every week lower your overall tax liability? It was my understanding that it did not. If it in fact did not lower your tax liability then it was no different then someone changing their W4 in order to lower what their employer is withholding. That means it is not a tax cut.

Since ace has refused to respond to this question twice can someone else take a stab at the above.
