The regular season, and highly anticipated showdown , of Ryle's Lady Raiders and the Lady Rebels of Boone County. This years matchup will be at Boone County.

So many of these players are not only friends, but neighbors, as well. should be a great game. Can the Lady Raiders stop Boone and Sydney Moss?

I am not a resident of Boone Co. either but will be in attendance to see this game. I do not think that Ryle has the inside game to match up and contain Moss. They will match up well on the perimeter.

Boone County's guards are more experienced than Ryle's. IMO, their guard play will be the difference in this game.

In my opinion, "most" Boone County residents will not have ANY knowledge of the fact that this game was ever even scheduled.

Moss will be the difference.

Does anyone else out there get the feeling that our region is not that strong? I haven't been following the girl's game that long, but the teams don't seem very deep. It doesn't seem that most subs are really near the starter's levels. Seems there is drop off when coaches go to the bench. I've seen everyone except NCC so I can't speak to them but is this fairly accurate? I am asking this in all seriousness because I'm sure there are many of you who have been following the girl's longer than I have. I know there are a sprinkling of good players, but it just seems there is a big gap between the starters and the bench. I would enjoy relpies. Thanks.

The 9th was a bit down last season, but as I said in a recent post, the region is really down this season. If Ms Moss wasn't in the picture there would no teams with balance (inside/outside/guard play/perimeter shooting). Every 9th team seems to be one key injury or foul trouble away from being in trouble.

I agree with the previous comments on the depth of area ball clubs. I love Moss's game but there are many more talented players in our area than just her. I still feel that as more teams encourage year round play (AAU) more talent will continue to develop hence more team depth. I will use Marion County as an example. Young team, but they have played together, as a unit, for a couple of years and it show in their dominence. also, there are other sporting opportunities available today, that weren't available in my day, that young women are playing (soccer) and aren't playing basketball. there are exceptions(Abby Jantzen) who play both exceptionally well. Just some thoughts... no answer to lack of depth...

How can they be neighbors if Boone County Schools requires you to attend the school in the district which you reside? For the sake of argument lets leave Moss out of the equation.

There are 16 regions and we have several teams ranked in the top 20. My daughter plays for NCC, so I might be a little biased, but i beleive that the ninth region is as good as most and better than quite a few. We have been to several big touraments in the state and we have several teams that can compete with anyone I have seen(Boone, Ryle, Highlands and NCC). Some people might think that makes us top heavy but few regions can boast more than 4-5 top teams.

As far as depth there are not many teams at any level that can afford to lose starters. Look at UK take Wall, Paterson, or Cousins out and there will be a drastic drop in talent. Kobe off the Lakers. look at what they did without Paul Gasol.

Basketball more than any sport relies on stars. Not saying that these girls coming off the bench don' contribute because if you have depth it makes you that much more dangerous. However there will always be a reliance on the starters for any team.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding how you are using the term "neighbors."

 

Its my understanding that if you and I live next to each other in Ryle's district we are locked into going to Ryle instead of Boone, Coooper, or Conner.

 

Now if you mean "neighbors" as in they live in the same general area despite being in different districts then that's different.

Best to leave this situation alone. It could get into some very grey areas and hurt some feelings. Bottomline, she's a good kid and she's doing very well. Why don't we leave it at that.
