January 21, 201016 yr Anybody listen to this? I just happened to stumble on it. They talked about the telethon and DP said if any other marquee coach in the country had done what Cal and UK did, ESPN would have led with it all day. Cal told him he wanted to kiss him on the mouth for saying that! They also talked about Wall and others going to the NBA. Coach said in 12 years he would be on a beach somewhere, no longer coaching. He feels like the UK job is a 10 year max job, and that is all you can take. I just love this guy.
January 21, 201016 yr Dan Patrick is exactly right about the telethon. Had it been Coach K @ Duke or Roy Williams at UNC, ESPN would have led off the show with it all day long and talked about how great it was.
January 21, 201016 yr Aww poor UK, no one giving them their due. In all seriousness it's great what they did, but who cares how much ESPN talks about it. UK got plenty of love from ESPN and the SEC over this tv deal. To get UK on Super Tuesday a lot they play 1/4 of their SEC games against teams with 1 days rest while UK is coming on 3 days+ rest in all of them.

Ya know, I see what you're saying but the thing is the "Hoops for Haiti" telethon would be a great thing to get on ESPN or something because of publicity and getting more people to donate that way. Every little bit helps.
January 21, 201016 yr I would also add you don't due stuff like this for publicity if you are doing it for the right reasons.

So now people are upset that UK plays on Tuesday night after playing Saturday?

Every little bit helps. Agreed, I mean the more money it raises the better, it's for a great cause. Maybe some coaches could take the baton from Cal and do it in their state. Now if they did that and then got more publicity you have plenty of reason to go nuts on ESPN.
January 21, 201016 yr I would also add you don't due stuff like this for publicity if you are doing it for the right reasons. No one said they were doing it for the attention? But when you do this stuff it is nice for the attention if it makes more people aware of the cause and they may want to bid on stuff or call in to donate.
January 21, 201016 yr So now people are upset that UK plays on Tuesday night after playing Saturday? I'm not upset about it, but there is definitely a schedule bias in favor of UK in SEC play now.
January 21, 201016 yr Author I would also add you don't due stuff like this for publicity if you are doing it for the right reasons. Which is exactly what Cal said. DP brought it up and after Cal said that about kissing him, he said he didn't care how much ESPN focused on it. Anti-blue glasses or not, you cannot deny if Roy or Coach K did the same thing it would have garnered much more national publicity.
January 21, 201016 yr Andy Katz made mention of it last Saturday before the event. ESPN is still a business (Disney) that is sponsoring their own fund raising efforts which they have to protect. I understand not promoting it any more than they did.

What SEC teams are playing their conference games on Sunday?

If and when that happens then UK coaches, fans, and players can be upset about it. But for now just know you did a great thing and feel good about doing that.
