But really, I think the expectations change way too much depending on the school to specify on here. Besides elite schools of the last few years (Scott County, Holmes, Clark County, Mason County to name a few) the expectations are always a state championship. Anything less is a major dissapointment. Meanwhile, for everyone else in the state, their expectations vary greatly.

Kind of tough to read.. but I think he's wanting each person to say what their expectations are for their team and head coach. Unless you're talking about my post. Then I don't really know what you're confused about.

What school are you talking about? What are your expectations at said school? Maybe if you start by giving us an example, the rest can more easily follow.

Sorry for the confusion. My school(s) are the Boone County schools, Ryle, Boone and Conner. I am leaving out Cooper because of their young beginning.

 

I expect from the three schools, all of which are 6A in football, to have at least two winning seasons out of four and to be competitive when they are not winning versus the other NKAC teams. I also expect these to compete for a regional title every 5-6 years. I don't think this is too much considering that the smallest of the three, Conner, has 1300 students.

The question really is, who has the right to hold to decide what the expectations are? Fans? AD? Superintendants? And what are their credentials for setting such expectations? Are they basketball experts? Have they ben successfull coaches in the past?

If we go by the KERA model for education, every school - regardless of talent level - should improve every year based on the class that went before them; and win the championship in 2014.

Since this is a public forum, anyone with an account and the desire to bring up the subject has the right to give their expectations.

 

As far as any given school, the AD and other administrators certainly have a minimum idea of expectations for all their programs. It's part of their job. Most fans have high expectations for their school. Should they have otherwise.

 

As far as credentials and experts, it seems to me that there's a lot more people who think they know what they're talking about than really do know. Kind of like officiating.

Maybe I'm wrong, but based on your expectations, I'd say the schools you listed are pretty much on par. I'm on the outside looking in, but don't they all three usually have a couple winning seasons every four years, compete in the NKAC fairly well, and make the regional tourny pretty regularly? Maybe I'm wrong, and if so my bad.

I don't know if it is the coach because even Nate Niemi struggled with this problem. Maybe, it is the kids who have the problem. They don't get up for many games and seem to lose some they shouldn't ever year.

Fan expectations are normally what they should be, to win, that is what makes them so fervent. Realistically, Coaches and administrators should sit down and go over program expectations. It is ridiculous to think that expectations are the same from year to year even at the big schools. One thing that HS cannot do is hope to reload every year. A strong program should expect to be competetive every year and hope rather than expect to cut down the nets, good classes should raise expectations. If you are truly disappointed when your team doesn't cut down the nets every year and your looking for the coaches head, take my advice, find something else, HS sports will only bring misery. Besides that a coaching change may make a few in the stands happy but what will it do for the kids. Its more than X's and O's. A lot of kids and programs have been hurt to make a few happy.

Just a correction. Boone has only been out of the district once since 2004.

Tough district, I remember when Simon Kenton was a member. Just look around the state, loaded districts everywhere send good teams home early and thats year after year. The only question I would have is how do they test themselves during the season. It helps tremendously when kids have big game experience.
