Boone County 67 Scott 50

Featured Replies

Boone bounces back with a good win. Boone led throughout after a 2-0 Scott lead.

Popp (Boone) led all scorers with 18. Brown had 11, Gabbard 10, and Earls about 9-10.

Smith finished with 10 for Scott. O'Conner also had about that much.

Looks like the Eagles took a thrashing last night.

Scott is just too inconsistent this year.

Nice win for the Rebels. So what was the difference in this one Boone County fans? Why the easy win over a tough Scott team versus the two losses in the games previous to this one? And it has to be more than just Earls being back. I know he is a very good player but I don't think that is the only reason.

1. They hit 5 threes from outside. That is the most for them all year. They were freer with taking outside shots tonight.

2. They did not get outrebounded like they seemed to in the losses.

3. Scott did not hit their threes like Newport and St. Henry did against Boone. In Boone's losses to Newport, St. Henry, and NCC, they gave up too many threes.

4. Boone hit their free throws much better in this game than the previous two they lost.

5. The home crowd was a big factor for Newport and St. Henry. (Boone's student section was basically non-existent again last night.)

Earls played better last night, but Brown continues to score and rebound very well for Boone.

Boone coming off two losses and Scott coming off of a big win. Boone seemed a little more focused then they have been past couple of weeks and playing at home.

Boone hit threes early and got Earls and Brown involved underneath. Scott could not handle Earls and Brown and that got Popp some good looks at the basket.

Yes. I thought Earls and Brown were a good combination inside.

Brown will offer more bang down low for the Rebels and seems like he can score as well.

Kids played more aggressive defense, shot the three and attacked the basket. Having depth with Lay and Earls back most certainly helps and also the three guard option with Popp, Gabbard and Schultz. The beauty of Earls being out is Boone has Trevan Brown in the mix and he can score. Great to see Earls and Brown on floor at same time. This gives Boone a lot of options with all of these players healthy and contirbuting.

Attitudes and team play seemed more cohesive. Looks like they worked on a lot with the boys mentally and physically.

Overheard one Mother say her son said he didn't have to tell her everything that was discussed in practice. lol sounds like they want parents attitudes out of the mix. lol

Based on the above posts, it sounds to me like the last two losses and this game may have helped Boone get their season on track. It sounds like a lot of "between the ears" coaching took place the past week and it showed up on the court. I think Boone may be ready to go on a roll from here on out.

Also having Earls and Lay back and available doesn't hurt. If the team stays healthy, they are a threat. The Highlands/Boone game should be a good one this week.

Yes, Highlands has a tough weekend ahead with Ryle on Friday and Boone Co on Sat but looking forward to it.

Would really like to know what the AD was thinking when agreeing to this scheduling. Why put your team at a scheduling disadvantage when these games are tough enough with proper prep time?

Coach usually has much input into his schedule as AD. Lot of coaches want to schedule a weekend like this to prepare their team for post season when they might have to play on back to back days. Team gets a feeling for how they will prepare physically and how they will prep in back to back situation.

Good point, although I was not so much concerned about the players because most of these kids play AAU, and playing back to back games over two days is nothing when they are used to playing sometimes 3-4 games/day. Was more concerned about game planning and studying opponents tendencies (although I think Flynn attended this game).

Highlands also played a similar schedule earlier in the year when they played Mason Co and Brossart on back to back nights and then Newport three days later.

Holmes also has a tough stretch like that coming up too:

Feb 5th: Holmes @ Highlands

Feb 6th: Warren Central @ Holmes

Feb 9th: Boone Co @ Holmes

If you want to prepare your team for a successful post season, those types of scheduling moves will certainly help come late Feb. and early March.
