"Defensive play of the night" should have been a goaltend. Ball hit the backboard first. Great hustle though. Newport looks good. Hope they win it, but have a feeling they won't after watching how focused NCC stays.

 

 

 

 

 

My view point it was not a goaltend did not hit backboard until it was blocked.IMO

Newport won this game pretty easy but if they make there free throws, they win by 15 or so.

 

Free throws is whats wrong with Newports team.They need to work on this instead of dunks and three pointers.In a big game free throws is going to cost them if they dont start shooting them better.

Actually, I like Faust. I think he is a good coach. I am just trying to bring some balance to the constant posts in virtually every St. Henry thread that Faust is sooooo awesome and he is the reason for St. Henry's success. St. Henry gets very good talent. They have a long record of success in basketball. They were good before Faust and they will be good after Faust. He does a good job but he is not the genius of N. Ky. basketball.

 

 

St. Henry does not get talent every year. People do fear playing them becaus e Coach Faust gets the most out of his players. They always play extremely hard and very disciplined. I love the way he manages a game from the sidelines. Were they very good before him? Will they be as good after him, I serously doubt it.

I disagree on all points except that Faust does a very good job coaching St. Henry. St. Henry does get talent; St. Henry was good before Faust; St. Henry will be good after Faust. I will let that be my last post in this thread on the subject as we are straying off topic.

This play happened so fast and was such a great hustle play it was really hard to tell when the ball hit the backboard. The St Henry player, I believe was Barnett was going hard at the basket and really never slowed down as he went to lay it in.............but out of NOWHERE came Foster to get his hands on the ball.

 

I seriously could not tell if it was a block or a goal tend, it happened so FAST! I don't know if the refs could tell either, and in that instance I think they made the right call or should I say NO CALL.

Another thing not to take anything away from Newport because they played a good game was the fact that St. Henry lost Carroll for the whole second half due to injury. But the St. Henry kids played hard to the end, but have to wonder if his offense and defensive present would have helped the CRU down the stretch. Both these teams will be making some noise come tournament time.

St. Henry was down by 11 at half. Carroll didn't help in the first half to hold down the lead. Fatigue may have been a factor for St. Henry and Carroll could have helped with another body in the 2nd half.

 

What did St Henry do the last quarter to dominate by so much?

I think they wore down Newport and it showed in the last quarter they just did not have enough time left in the game to pull out the win. With the amount of time Carroll played in the first half he should have been well rested.

St Henry down by as many as 15+ in second half. Hung in but never really dominated. I thought there was a chance Foster and Luther might wear down a little and I think they did. They worked hard to get the ball and had to chase St Henry's guards all night. Their athleticism allows the other Newport players great looks and layups(McDaniel case in point). This team continues to grow.

As for St Henry, they need to band together on both offense and defense and start impeding the athletic shotblockers and rebounders that every other team seems to have. It seems when there is a good baseline move or drive to the basket by SH, it becomes a feeding frenzy. A few well-timed bumps or "shields" could go a long way toward more success near the basket.

I agree that Dave Faust is a heck of a coach. I also believe that every year, including this year, that he has at least a couple of hardworking, talented players that would certainly contribute, possibly start on some of the higher-profile teams in NKY. I can't recall over the last few years, more than a handful of year-round AAU players that have come through his program. Brandon Lenhoff(heckofaplayer) comes to mind as the last I recall, hopefully correctly. A few teams that they are competing with are loaded with those type of experienced, trained players. Seems like every year the Cru improves throughout the year and makes some noise. Hardworking, possibly talented, players who buy into each other and their coach's passion for the game.

Well said and very true about the AAU play.

Did Upshaw play? I didn't see his name in the box score. From what everyone has said on here about him, I expected him to contribute right away.

 

Nice win for the Wildcats though. If they can get past Newcath in the finals (assuming they make it there), I really think they could do some damage down in Richmond. I'd love to see them against a team like Shelby Valley.

 

In order for that to happen though, they'd have to make it to the finals.

Casey McDaniel is one of the most underrated players in the region.
