With that in mind doesn't it get kind of boring following this class?

Here in Ohio I know it gets boring knowing that there are a few teams that are going to be there almost each year and for me I can not get to excited about the Div those teams are in.

First, let me state that I am a Public School person. I would love to see a Public school compete with T/X(especially a JCPS school). To answer your questions Of Course you would like a more athletic team, anyone would, I contend that the Public Schools have not cornered the market on ahtletes(skill players) Look at guys like Hall, Beach, Nix, Quick, Bishop, Thomas just to name a few. These guys are very athletic. However, you are correct that most came through the Public system until 9th grade. You guys have a good group of skill guys but how many go both ways. Correct if I'm wrong but, I believe that both you and Male had QB's that took defensive snaps. This is a sign of lack of depth IMO.

As far as coaches prepping, I believe in Quality not Quantity, so I don't buy the 10hrs are needed to prep argument. Not to mention you can prep and train a racehorse all you want, if the horse is slower it loses.Finally, Only the coach of the certain team knows if they completely maximized THEIR team's players. That's EXACTLY what I'm saying. That includes the program where I coach. I don't think people outside of T and X -- our people included -- TRULY understand the extreme levels of dedication their kids, coaches, and BOOSTERS. The kind of money and hours they ALL spend to achieve what they have requires a lot of SACRIFICE and DISCIPLINE.

What? I'm assuming you mean people representing T or X are "beating down doors" of prospective players to come to there and play? If so, that is a KHSAA violation. They can speak to kids about coming to SCHOOL there --- but they can ONLY bring up non-athletic offerings.

 

To that question though, I'd say the PUBLIC schools in Louisville have just as much opportunity to be at youth league games and be approached by a parent to ask about opportunities to attend their school.

 

I'm sure they'd say X/T.

 

I'll give you all those. Now let me pose some questions to you:

 

If you could choose, would you rather have the MORE athletic team (fast, quick, agile, hand-skills, etc.) or the LESSER?

 

Overall, position-by-position (especially at the skilled positions), DESPITE FACILITY ADVANTAGES, COACHING STAFF SIZE ADVANTAGES, ETC., do you think T/X or a Louisville public 6A team would have the more athletic team?

 

How many hours are Louisville public school coaches limited to in weekend preparation?

 

How many hours per week are Louisville public school coaches limited to in training their athletes (especially their LINEMEN -- an area where the privates traditionally DO out-man publics)?

 

And finally, how much "private school" discipline (do what your coach says or else) and off-season dedication (completely MAXIMIZE your speed, agility, size, and strength) has been employed by us public schools?

 

Discipline isn't the ONLY thing...but given our ATHLETICISM ADVANTAGES, we should be able to mitigate many of the things above.

 

Pointing out MALE was perfect for my argument. Coach Redmon 'out-athleted' T/X at pretty much every SKILLED position in the late 90's/early 2000s (Brohm at Trinity being the exception). He got his linemen strong and technically very good. And what a lot of people don't realize, he demanded DISCIPLINE (do it PERFECT or don't play) from his position-players -- especially on defense. As a result, they competed with the privates.

 

We have the potential still to 'out-athlete' T/X. But athleticism without DISCIPLINE and MAXIMUM OFF-SEASON TRAINING can't work. Our "athleticism advantage" has been mitigated by T/X because they OUT-WORK EVERYBODY!

 

I'm not saying it hasn't been ATTEMPTED at the public schools...I'm just saying we haven't done it WELL ENOUGH yet. At Ballard, we're going to sacrifice that 'great' player if he won't train like a champion, follow the rules in school and the community, and keep his grades up. And he'll sit the bench -- no matter how good he is -- unless he does things EXACTLY the way we ask.

 

 

 

I'm not saying we've "cornered the market" on this yet (otherwise, we'd have been able to seal the deal against Trinity last year when we had them down).

 

But I know we DO have several of the ingredients necessary. IF our coaches continue to be as dedicated as they have been both in-season and out, we continue to get great athletes, and our KIDS are willing to sacrifice their own needs for what's best for their team (true "discipline"), then we CAN/WILL compete without all the "advantages" they have over us or going to "home schools" (which I agree won't ever happen).

It's so frighteningly simple. He's instilling a culture of discipline. He's instilling a culture of believing in the system. Ask successful public school programs. HHS can do it. Belfry can do it. Bowling Green can do it. Central can do it.

 

The fact is, in Jefferson County, he CAN get the athletes. He CAN get the talent. But that's not enough. He knows that all the athletes and the talent cannot be enough. He knows that it's not just drawing up plays, and teaching the fundamentals. He knows his kids have to buy-in, and their families have to support in every way possible, and the administration has to back him up.

 

He knows.

Again...is he the first coach in 30 years (minus Male) to realize he can get the talent? He can get the athletes? Realize that the athletes and the talent cannot be enough? Is he really the first Jefferson Co. coach in 30 years to realize all these things?

 

Honestly, that is a slap in the face to a lot of Jefferson Co. coaches, a lot of good coaches, to think these are some "new ideas" or "approaches".

In the pan you all believe that he is original and thus insult thirty years of coaches in the highest class of public schools in favor of a team and coach who have yet to eclipse the third round.

 

Out of the pan and the defense becomes erroneous. If his idea is not original, then it is a replication of what someone has already done in the last thirty years, and we know the result of those efforts.

OKay, it sounds like with X and T in 6A and Highlands and Loser in 5A, according to some on here we've eliminated two of the six classes as being worthy of interest. Should we not not also explore the boredom of other classes next year?

 

Class 4A: Lone Oak, Bell County, Boyle County, Lexington Catholic and Losers

Class 3A: Central, Paducah Tilghman, and Losers

Class 2A: Fort Campbell and Losers

Class A: Lexington Christian, Mayfield, Beechwood, and Losers

I have no dog in the fight on the whole X/T thing, I actually kind of straddle the fence. Do I think it's remotely fair in any way? No. Do I blame parents and their kids in Louisville for sending their young men there? Not one bit.

 

Only one change that I would make Oxnard, is in 3A. Despite Central's dominance 2 out of the last 3 years, I'd consider it to be extremely wide open. Class A, 2A, 4A, 5A and 6A however, not the case. If you arent any of the schools you named, you're basically S.O.L.

...and I would say that there are a lot of coaches out there, coaches who have won more, advanced their teams further, that find the premises of what he is proposing to be egotistical and demeaning to the work of all those who have gone before him, who have fought this fight, who have pushed their kids, demanded excellence and discipline, worked 100 hour weeks, and strove to dethrone the big two.

Insult or not. I am have been very close to the local high school football season for quite sometime. I know Coach J. I know his agenda. I know he'll be successful. Will he win state? I don't know. What he is doing is not unfounded, but I know he will make sure to stick it through. Look, I apologize if you are offended by his statements, but I believe his way is the best to make some noise. Why the others weren't that successful is on them.

Coach J is doing a very good job at Ballard. His team plays hard and will give you all that they have. Time will tell how well his plan works. I'm sure the coaches at other Louisville Schools have a plan also. Time will tell how their plan pans out. I for one agree that many a good coach have coached in the public system. They just couldn't reach the pinnacle. Is it a coincidence that Male hasn't been as competative since they can no longer bring in "non-traditional" students? I think not. Has Central become more competative because they can pick and choose their students? No offense to Coach Scroggins(great coach) but IMO in sure helps. On a side note, is it me or are the Private supports big fans of CoachJ
