Gallatin County 68 Simon Kenton 64

Recommended Posts

Gallatin played well. Their offense was effective and scored at will, often driving to the basket unopposed. I had expected SK to play much better, especially after doing well over the break. SK was flat and played uninspired basketball the entire game- they did not deserve to win this game. GC outplayed SK at every position and every possession of the game.

For SK's sake, hope this game is out of their heads and they bring their 'A' game tonight at Boone and most definitely on Friday at Walton or this season could get ugly. Basham did not play for SK and GC played several JV players in the that game and started them in the varsity game.

This isn't all that surprising. Jon Jones has several veterans back, a couple of quality transfers in, and a solid system that plays to the strengths of his kids. 6A vs. 1A means a whole lot less in basketball than it does in football... (not saying that a larger school doesn't have certain inherent advantages, they're just not nearly as pronounced - especially when the smaller school is well-coached.)

I predicted the Wildcats would make a lot of noise this year - but Jones has his team in gear faster than expected...

With GC's younger players playing major roles, this team is likely to get a lot better before the year is out.

Basham didn't play at all?

Basham hurt his back over the weekend during practice so he did not play at all. SK could have used some of his 3 point shots, but they need to move on. The officials did not help out in either game. They called little fouls but never call the big fouls. SK needs to get ready and move on. Good luck tonight at Boone.
