I like Blondie a lot. Used to have a HUGE crush on Debbie Harry. But they are not 'rock and roll'. They would have a place in the pop hall of fame, but not rock and roll. However, they MIGHT be a group I would give in on. However, Madonna? Really? If anyone defines POP music, not rock and roll, it is her.

 

Kiss is one of those rock n roll groups that had a HUGE impact on the genre, like them or not. They took a lot of what was going on at that time and basically, injected it with steroids and took it to a new level.

 

 

But you're missing my point. Pop is a form of Rock and Roll. You may not respect it as such, but it is. Madonna, like her or not, absolutely influenced and shaped what is today's rock and roll. Rock and Roll is a very broad umbrella for a very large number of sub-genres. I think it's actually an insult to the term Rock and Roll to attempt to discredit those sub-genres. The very core of the philosophy of Rock and Roll is musical evolution and invention.

I wouldn't consider much of the early Beatles to be Rock and Roll but more pop. I think you have to look at the different styles of music that evolved from "Rock and Roll".

Because I think they are awful. And not just that their music is awful but I think they are awful musicians and Paul Stanley couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. They made their name on a gimmick.

If they were, Eric Johnson would have been in after his first album. Again, we will just have to differ on this one. A 'gimmick' is very short term and usually disappears very quickly. KISS has not. They have sold millions of albums, have an accomplished history of selling out arenas, put on a fantastic live show and are still around after over 35 years. They had a MASSIVE impact on rock music, live albums (2 most influential live albums in rock were Frampton Comes Alive and KISS Alive), and how live shows were done. They made it an event and entertained the fans. They took a lot of the growing trends in NYC at that time (New York Dolls were a major influence on their stage show), pumped it up on steroids and just blew up. They influenced so many guitar players over the years. In fact, when Ace Frehley first left the band, Eddie Van Halen contacted Gene Simmons and wanted to be join the group. I have heard interviews with tons of rock guitarists that talked about the influence that KISS had on them. VH1 named them #10 in their list of 'Top 100 Rock Bands of All Time'.

 

AC/DC is in and they are NOT a group of great musicians. I have never been a Black Sabbath fan, but their influence on rock music has been huge and they deserve to be in. I am not a Rolling Stones fan, but they are a must for the HOF. I don't like Fats Domino, but he deserves to be there as well.

 

I HATE Madonna. Absolutely despise her and dislike most of her music. But in a Pop Hall of Fame or the AMA, she definitely is a must have for her accomplishments.

Gimmick or not, 30 yrs in the business a legions of followers should get them in.

I didn't say they shouldn't be in because I don't like their music. I did not say I thought they shouldn't be in because they weren't the best musicians. I understand what you are saying but just have a hard time believing they would have and impact on anyone had it not been for the makeup. Grand Funk Railroad, sold out Shea Stadium quicker than The Beatles. Has several Gold/Platinum Albums. Never will get in and there are thousands of fans who protest this every year.

 

Closer To Home, that song alone should do it.

Six platinum (2 double) I believe and 4 gold. They are deserving of a spot in the Hall,but,sadly I agree with Alabama that they will never get in.

I understand what you are saying but just have a hard time believing they would have and impact on anyone had it not been for the makeup. As far as music, I will not argue with you that they are the best musicians. But albums like Alive I, Destroyer, Rock n Roll Over and Creatures of the Night I still enjoy. Once the hair band craze started in the mid to late 1980's, they became too commercial IMHO.

 

I do have to say this thought, KISS and Parlimentary Funk in the 1970's (IMHO) turned the entire idea of what a concert could on it's ear and the audiences began expecting more from a live show. KISS actually saved Casablanca Records which if not for KISS Alive I, was ready to go under.
