December 13, 200916 yr Any idea who is going to be on the staff? I have heard that he may be bringing in Urban Meyer's OC from when he was at Utah. The name is escaping me. He just got canned at UNLV. Wonder if he will pluck anyone from UF's offensive staff, because there is a lot of dissension their and a few are bolting and Urb may be bringing in the OC from Central Michigan.
December 13, 200916 yr Strong said he plans on starting to put it together this week. Really have no clue who he's looking at.
December 16, 200916 yr Looks like he used his South Carolina connection to land a strength coach. link Kind of surprised this guy is leaving USC to join Strong at UofL.
December 16, 200916 yr Very excited to see who he brings in. Very interested in the style of offense he will use.
December 16, 200916 yr Very excited to see who he brings in. Very interested in the style of offense he will use. I think the OC Meyer had at Utah (and ex-UNLV coach) Mike Sanford will probably be the man that runs the offense.

The guys name is Mike Sanford. It was announced today he would be the OC.
December 23, 200916 yr ^ Well many of you guys were right on that one. I think Sanford going back down to the coordinator ranks, at a school like Louisville will thrive. UL just a few years ago had one of the most powerful offenses in the country. It's not inconceivable that it can't be done again. You know Strong will have the Defense ready to go but now I'd say you'll see a big splash on offense. The Big East will take a while to catch onto the Spread Option attack IMO. Although West Virginia runs a spread, its not the same as Meyer's version. If Strong got the right kind of players in there, then this could but a good team across the board. In a way I kind of hope not though. It feels so good to know you are actually better than Louisville at Football, and "has" been better. I have nothing but bad memories back to a few years ago when the filthy Cards were contending for a National Championship all the while thumping Kentucky at mercy. Now that the tables have turned (minus the National Championship part) It feels good. A lot about Kentucky football has felt good lately, something that forever was rarely to be heard in Lexington. Although I feel the Cats still have the edge on Louisville right now, I know Strong will bring them back to full competitive mode in no time.

Frankly, wouldn't it feel good to be in a situation where we had 2 (if not more eventually) really good football teams in the state year in and year out...even if one of the teams is your biggest in-state rival? Think how awesome it would be to have football be as big a talking point as basketball. In my opinion, it would be even better, because basketball is just something to occupy the time until football is back!
December 23, 200916 yr I don't think U of L is going to be a quick fix though. It wouldn't shock me for them to win 7 or 8 games but I could also see them only winning 3 or 4 too. By year 3 I think U of L will be a major player in the Big East but it's going to take a little bit of time IMO. QB is a major concern for U of L IMO, especially for that type of offense. Also I wonder if U of L is ready to play an SEC style of defense. I don't see it and it's going to take some time. Strong is the right man for the job, I just don't want to see crazy expectations and all of that. I want Charlie to be successful and for U of L to become the Big Dog in the Big East. JMO.
December 23, 200916 yr I heard that while at Utah Sanfords offense averaged 43.2 pts a game. He was an assitant at Stanford, Notre Dame, San Diego Chargers as well as Head Coach at UNLV. He struggled as a Head Coach his record was like 15-43. He will run the spread at the "Ville."
December 23, 200916 yr When I think about what style of offense they will run, the one kid I think will have a big year is Beaumont. I could see him playing a slot spot that would motion him a lot and find ways to get him the football.

In my opinion, it would be even better, because basketball is just something to occupy the time until football is back! Certainly. I know that sounded like I didn't want Louisville to succeed at all, but I really only want them not to succeed against Kentucky. I would love to see them get back to the level they were on a few years ago, I would just also like to see Kentucky continue to beat them as well.

I agree...next year will be rough for the Cards. I don't think the Cards will go Bowling again until year 2.
December 23, 200916 yr There's reason for excitement, but nobody really knows how Strong will fare as a head coach. I do expect to see a lot of improvement, because I think the players will buy in more than they ever did with Kragthorpe, so I think we'll see better effort and focus on a more consistent basis. That in itself will be a big improvement, IMO. I'll say this much. I like this hire far better than the last. I was never sold on the Kragthorpe hire and I think Jurich made a huge blunder with that move. That said, I still view Strong a lot like Joker Phillips...I've been impressed with his job as a coordinator, but how he'll do as the head man is still an unknown. There's reason for optimism though, and like Joker, I think he deserves the opportunity. Good luck to him. Interesting thought down the road...I've recently seen some stuff on television about minority head coaches in college football. Its so bad that apparently black coaches will take lesser jobs in the NFL because their chances of landing a head coaching job in a league with only 32 teams is better than in the NCAA (see Raheem Morris). However, if Strong sticks and Joker eventually takes over, Kentucky will have minority head coaches at its two biggest universities. I think there's reason to be proud that these schools have proven they'll hire the best guy for the job. Period.
