December 23, 200916 yr Looks like John Fabris will be the D-line coach. Fabris was let go by Georgia. It appears Strong is putting together a good staff so far.
December 23, 200916 yr There's reason for excitement, but nobody really knows how Strong will fare as a head coach. I do expect to see a lot of improvement, because I think the players will buy in more than they ever did with Kragthorpe, so I think we'll see better effort and focus on a more consistent basis. That in itself will be a big improvement, IMO. I'll say this much. I like this hire far better than the last. I was never sold on the Kragthorpe hire and I think Jurich made a huge blunder with that move. That said, I still view Strong a lot like Joker Phillips...I've been impressed with his job as a coordinator, but how he'll do as the head man is still an unknown. There's reason for optimism though, and like Joker, I think he deserves the opportunity. Good luck to him. Interesting thought down the road...I've recently seen some stuff on television about minority head coaches in college football. Its so bad that apparently black coaches will take lesser jobs in the NFL because their chances of landing a head coaching job in a league with only 32 teams is better than in the NCAA (see Raheem Morris). However, if Strong sticks and Joker eventually takes over, Kentucky will have minority head coaches at its two biggest universities. I think there's reason to be proud that these schools have proven they'll hire the best guy for the job. Period. It would actually be all 3 wouldn't it? WKU just did the same.
December 23, 200916 yr It would actually be all 3 wouldn't it? WKU just did the same. I was thinking WKU may have, but I wasn't sure. :thumb: Its pretty sad that minority coaches will take position jobs in the NFL with only 32 head jobs and 64 coordinator jobs because their chances of getting there are better than at the college level.
December 23, 200916 yr Willie Taggart is the new HC hire at WKU. Just wanted to mention who we were talking about.
December 24, 200916 yr I've followed Sanford for awhile now learning their offense at Utah. I love it! Wish UK ran it.
January 1, 201016 yr According to the CJ, Strong intends to name Vance Bedford (Florida secondary coach) his defensive co. However, I think Strong intends to call the defense himself. Bedford has a pretty impressive resume. He's coached at Michigan, OK. State, NFL and Florida. According to the article, he was also in the running for UF's Def. Co. job.
