December 14, 200916 yr ^The downside to that is that he (Carwin) had a knee injury in preparing for his fight with Lesnar, so who knows how long he's out. Either way, there appears to be a lull in the HW division right now....but once Lesnar comes back (and I'm sure he'll come back healthy; especially since he was fighting unhealthy prior to the collapse) the UFC could see its biggest PPV ever, thanks in part to Dana White's "Brock may never fight again" comments. Later.
December 14, 200916 yr An intersting stat from the fightmetric report. Penn outstruck Sanchez 150 to 8. More can be found here: http://www.mmatorch.com/artman2/publish/UFC_2/article_3936.shtml Later.
December 14, 200916 yr Opinions are what drive the UFC, but they still don't have a legitimate ranking system. I hear everything that you guys are saying, and I agree with it, to a point. But the number one contendership shouldn't be decided by Mir fighting Kongo, or Mir's last fight with Lesnar. If Lesnar's next fight (to defend his title) was with Carwin, wouldn't that imply that Carwin is the number one contender? So, shouldn't Mir have to fight Carwin? It's this way across the UFC. White always comes out and says, if "so and so" beats "so and so", I think he deserves a shot at the title.....but it's not always the same if the reverse happens. Joe Silva is the matchmaker, but Dana White is the hype maker. If Mir does bulk up and have to cut, I really would be interested in seeing the fight....I'm interested anyhow because I love to watch the fights. However, I wonder what that added weight will do to Mir....he's certainly not used to being that big, while Lesnar has been that way for many years and it's very evident that he knows how to use it. Later. When Mir first came back he was very overweight and probably weighed around 265.

December 14, 200916 yr When Mir first came back he was very overweight and probably weighed around 265. True he did come in heavy, very heavy. I just wonder how he'd handle the weight against someone bigger than him that knows how to handle it. Oh my goodness. 150 to 8? Yes....150 to 8. Later.
December 14, 200916 yr I thought about posting that picture earlier, but thought it might be too violent for some. Diego looks like Rocky after a match with Apollo, Drago and Clubber.
December 14, 200916 yr I thought about posting that picture earlier, but thought it might be too violent for some. If it is, I'm sure it can be removed.....but i don't think it's bad enough to be removed......everyone here is a grown up. Remember Marvin Eastman's cut? Yikes! Later.
December 14, 200916 yr Very solid fight card that was very entertaining. Penn is a butt whooping machine at 155, no one is going to stop him in the near future. Florian rebounded well in impressive fashion. Mir looked pretty good but I still dont think Kongo has beaten anyone thats any good.
December 15, 200916 yr I can see Diego only landing eight punches. He barley even tried to throw. Instead he kept trying for takedowns he had no chance in getting. He would have stood a much better chance IMO if he would have came out swinging for the fences like he did against Guida. Obviously it wouldn't have hurt that bad, he still got worked using his strategy, which was awful.
December 15, 200916 yr I wasn't advocating another match between Mir and Lesnar, although I realize in hindsight it probably looked that way. I do think its likely to happen at some point though. Also, regarding Diego Sanchez...I don't think he could have won against BJ regardless. But, I agree with everyone that he should have tried to win on his feet. I'm not sure why you'd want to go to the mat against BJ Penn. Sean Sherk didn't want to...he tried to stand and jab with Penn the entire fight. Shouldn't that tell you something? I'm not a Diego fan anyway, so I'm glad he lost.
December 15, 200916 yr I read where Penn was trying to emulate Manny Pacquia's style. From the looks of things, he did a pretty good job of it.
