Can anyone from HHS explain how AC was not on the Mr. Football ballot?

 

He only played half of the season. Are we giving awards on potential numbers?

AC still played in 11 or 12 games. He was hurt by having a coach with a soft spot for other teams. If you remember the Birds toyed with the Tigers deciding to work on their passing game. AC if they would have given him the ball 15 times would have gotten 200 and 3 to 4 TDs easily. They played their cards right but he still should have gotten on the ballot. Answer why and how he can get the Paul Horning award as the best player in the state playing for the best team in the state but he can't make the list?

 

A: First off, nobody is going to deny him the respect that he earned, as most saw throughout the playoffs what he is capable of. Soft spot? Maybe over in "Birdland", someone might want to tell Dale that he had a potential Mr. Football winner. I don't think Dale had a soft spot when he was racking up 70 points per game with JeLo and Gino, back 2 back years. :banana:

 

B: Why and how he could get the Paul Horning award...Politics??:idunno: AC was a great athlete at every position. But to win an award for a position that he only represented for 2/3 of the season is beyond me. Nevertheless, he is deserving...

 

Sorry, to finally answer the question....Yes, he could play at ND and I guess only he and the new coach would know if there were an offer or a pending offer..

Woody nobody in this thread said he should have WON Mr Football. He should have been on the ballot. To say he won any award because of politics is very smallminded of you especually if you knew the work ethic, drive, tenacity,and mpst importantly his team orientedness. He is a Winner period and he won against everyone in KY every year. He didn't beat the likes of Class A,AA,AAA or even 4A opponents consistently. He was busy dominating Class 5A and 6A teams. That is to take nothing away from Stat Hogs like Hayden and Mcsherry from LCA and Boyle but let's look at the facts. My suggestion to you and anyone else just joining the thread. Scroll up and read Sweeperboy's description of the Army JR workout last year. You want to get noticed well there is your proof in the pudding.

AC participated in the Army All American Junior Combine last yr in San Antonio. I had the honor of attending this combine and I can tell you this much. Size is right at 6'0 wt is somewhere around 180. 40 time was somewhere in the 4.6 range(jr time) His 40 time ranked somewhere in the 150 to 170 range out of 500 of Americas biggest, fastest, badest 17 yr olds all touted as D1 prospects. Now the one time that turned all the heads in the joint was his shuttle time in which he timed 2nd out of 500 kids. He also went one on one against two of highest touted kids at cornerback in the country. One kid commited to Fl and the other to LSU. AC actually worked out at WR in the combine. The kid from Fl ran the fastest 40 time at 4.34 and I believe the LSU kid ran a 4.4. Neither one of the DB's could cover him up. He ran somewhere around 20 routes and not once did they cover him up. His separation is absoulutely unbelievable. At one point in time the entire combine was watching him because of the matchup and AC did not dissapoint. My point is the kid is big time and has what is called gametime speed, and I believe he can play anywhere. He is being snubbed because of his 40 time and that is too bad. Collinsworth and Roller both were invited to the combine . They both attended but Roller was on crutches . From everybody that went to the combine , they were all WOW 'd with Austins moves and quickness and impressed everyone there, no doubt. Great student,great player and he will represent Highlands and Ft. Thomas very well anywhere that he attends college. As far as the Mr. Football ballot goes ,I'm sure Austin isn't loosing sleep over it. He might be loosing sleep from the phone ringing off the hook ,or deciding what college to go to, but the Mr. Football award. no.

Quality draws quality. I guess there is a common denominator in this whole thing and one could argue that its ND and others could argue that its AC. Both Kelly of UC and Jim Harbaugh of Stanford are being talked about as potential head coaches at ND. Just something interesting about the programs and coaches that are recruiting AC and also the colleges that have been considered AC finalist. I got to believe if either of these two coaches wind up in SB then AC just might be headed that way as well.
