Walton Verona 48 Carroll County 45 OT

Featured Replies

Tough game for the Panthers tonight. They just could not hold on and win.

Congrats to WV..we will meet again soon in the All A!

Wow. Much closer than I thought. I had heard this was Walton's 5th game in 7 days(or something like that) Figured Walton's size and depth would give Carroll fits. What's the story????

The Jury is still out on Walton. Their impending game with Simon is just huge.

I think Carroll is proving that they are a team to be reckoned with in the 8th region. Congrats to WV on a tough victory.

Carroll was cold from the outside and played their usual tough defense. Hannah Devine hit a three at the end of regulation. Bad shooting night for Carroll ( other than Devine)

WV has a lot of size on Carroll and Walton is much improved defensively over last year.

It was a good game to watch..these teams seemed very evenly matched.

Carroll is experienced and well coached. Their guards play smart and can shoot. As always they are a tough matchup

Both teams scored well below their average tonight, I would attribute that to tough defense on both sides. Walton was more efficient on offense and was able to get to the foul line considerably more. I can honestly say that if this game was played 10 times it could be 50/50 or 60/40. Now we get to see who will improve as the season progresses.

Unfortunately these two will meet in the first round of the 8th Region All A. Good luck to both teams.

Congrats to both teams for a hard-fought game, and kudos to Carroll County! I think the general consensus was that W-V was the better team, but I think most of us thought they would win by more...

Walton just beat Carroll at Caroll so I believe that Walton is proving that they are a team to be reckoned with in the 8th Region. They are young and beat an experienced Carroll team. Should be an interesting first round game in the All A. Congrats to the Lady Cats for a hard fought win on the road.

Tonight these teams were evenly matched. This will be fun to watch this year. They have at least two more games this season.

Any one have individual stats from the game?

By the way, I thought it was a great effort put forth by both teams.

Walton is fighting the injury bug right now. Clinkenbeard did not play (back) and Judy played very little and is having surgery on Friday (knee) and will be out for 4-6 weeks. It really shortened their rotations tonight. Plus they looked a little leg weary at times (5 games in 7 days).

Walton was a head by 7 with 2 minutes to go with the ball and got a little impatient. Divine hits some really pressure shots (she had 30 I believe). Carroll County is well coached and the 2 3 zone they played really slowed the tempo down to their liking. Speaking of coach Mefford, not only is he an excellent coach, he is a class act. Walton played Carroll on Carroll's senior night last year and not only did he honor his own seniors but he recognized Walton's two seniors during the pre game ceremonies. (I thought that was very classy)

This was a game Walton needed to play this early in the year. It exposed some weaknesses that they will need to address. It will very interesting when these two play in the All A.

I'm not sure that this game (win or loose) with Simon means a whole lot right now. I think it will give each team an idea of what they need to work on. It might be hugh for the rankings on BGP. I doubt that either team will look like the same team when they play the 2nd and maybe even a 3rd time later in the season.

I disagree. With all the beating Walton has taken from Simon over the last few years I think this goes to the head of Walton. If they go in and lose by double digits it could be a major blow to their mental state.

It's extremely important that a team think it's the better team when the game starts (whether they are or not). A win by Walton and all of the sudden the whole mindset within the program is changing. Right now Walton is HOPING they can play with/beat Simon. If they were to knock them off then they would KNOW they could beat them. How could that not be a huge advantage when they most likely meet for the district championship?
