Sounds like it will come down to CovCath & Beechwood for second place in the districts and a spot in the regional tourny.

I was very impressed with Nussbaum the freshman from Beechwood. He handled the ball very well with both hands. He is very quick and athletic and carries himself like he is much older. He didn't shoot the ball much but he seemed to be the guy they were most comfortable with running the show. I'm still baffled why Holmes never presses much. I believe Beechwood would have really struggled against full court pressure. I'm not going to question Henley's coaching though as his record speaks for itself.

 

Nussbaum is very strong and has a nice handle but needs to work on his shot. His best game is taking it strong to the hole.

If Beechwood beats out CCH for the region again this year, look out. There is some very good young talent at Beechwood and size on the front line that will enable them to compete with anyone in the region. Depth will be the hurdle they need to work to overcome to compete with the big boys in the region.

You are right. I'm sure he just distributes uniforms and rolls the ball out and tells them to have at it. The 5 losses over the last two years are all on him.

Yes I agree, that is the one thing I noticed last night that they were only 7 players deep. But last year they were mainly 6 players deep and made it to region...

The coaches did not pick Beechwood to even be in the preseason top 10 in NKY this year. Beechwood lost most of their starters and offensive production from last year. Heck, many BGPer's were predicting Dayton or Villa to win D-III this year. Yet, Beechwood gave the defending state champs (who also happen to be nationally-ranked) fits. Either everyone missed the boat on this team, or Beechwood's coaching staff must be something else!

 

From what I've heard and read Beechwood has a very solid team this year, but there is A LOT of basketball yet to be played and a 15 point loss, no matter the caliber of oponent, doesn't really seem like a reason to enter the top 10.

 

Good luck to the Tigers, as I am sure they will win a lot of games this year, but I would like to see a couple of those wins before people start talking about winning their division and being considered a top 10 team.

I hope he gets out coached all the way to Lexington again this year. John Wooden was terrible as well.

I agree they must win 1st. Looking at the Tigers schedule it is tough for one of the NKAC DIII teams, Holmes, Cov. Cath, Holy Cross in district. Highlands, Dixie, Conner, NCC, Campbell Co in the LLoyd tourney to open it up. They usually play Ryle. Comparing the other DIII teams schedules none of them play this type of schedule. 14 games on the Tigers schedule are locked into playing DIII schools.

 

Maybe that is why when Beechwood losses to a great team in a game that was a very good game except for a stretch of about 3 minutes in the 3rd

quarter, people take notice and give them praise that they deserve. It is not like a 4 pt loss to a mid level 9th region team that people thought they should win!
