December 1, 200916 yr Who is the right person? Do you know that Joker isn't? There's no way of knowing how any coaching hire will work out until you see it. UK fans loved Hal Mumme...that turned out to be a disaster. They tore Barnhardt to shreds for letting Morriss get away and then hated Rich Brooks for the better part of 4 years. Turns out, he's the best coach they've had in my lifetime... If UK ever reaches an elite level in the SEC, its going to take a lot more work. The fans want it now, and that's not realistic. Brooks has improved the talent and the depth to the point where UK has managed to absorb key losses, injuries, and sub-par QB play to still win 7 games... Besides that, has Brooks stated intentions to step down after this season. Why on earth is there so much discussion about our next coach when we've got a guy like Brooks here now? I have no problem with Joker. I like what I've seen from him as OC, despite my disagreement with taking Cobb out late in the game vs. Tennessee (and South Carolina). He made a mistake. It happens. But, he's done a lot great work at UK. People want him out before ever giving him a chance, thinking the next Urban Meyer is coming to UK. Seriously. What are the odds of any school getting that guy, much less UK? What will be, will be. My advice is to enjoy Rich Brooks while he's here, and give Joker a chance before determining that he can't be a head coach. Amen!!!!:thumb: 5wide I could not agree more. December 1, 200916 yr They need to keep as much of the staff in place as possible, with the possible exception of special teams. Joker deserves the chance in my opinion. I agree. For UK, the risk is greater for them to try to go outside and bring in a new guy, which means a new staff. It destroys any chance of continuity, which is important. And, if you don't make a big splash, you've not only destroyed the continuity, but you've likely created a dip in recruiting that may or may not be overcome depending on how successful the team is...and the odds of that turning out well would be less with a new system being implemented. Again, his misuse of Cobb (IMO) aside, I've been impressed with Joker as the OC. There's nothing to make me feel like he'd be incompetent as the head coach, other than the general uncertainty that comes with any new guy, especially one that has never been in that position before.

If you read most of my post, I even say if Joker is the best guy for the job after at least going through the interview process with everyone, then thats fine. However what sense does it make to just give the job to a guy just because he is here? When maybe there could be someone else out there that would be better for the program. I hear you and other people keep saying its important to keep the same staff in place and all this stuff, but why? So we can keep on winning our annual 3 games a year in the SEC? I mean great accomplishment huh, the rest of the SEC is definitely afraid of us with that. Especially when these other programs have made changes, that will get their programs going again. Auburn is on their way back up, UT is on their way back up, Alabama and UF are going to stay up just because of their great coaches. At our current level we can't even beat South Carolina, and well you got to believe that Georgia is going to go back up too. Mississippi St has a new guy in charge that is already turning that program around, and well already beat us. Arkansas even though people hate Petrino he is a good coach, and that program is on its way up. Is UK on its way up? I don't see how anyone can really say yes. UK is basically at the same level as it has been the last 3 or 4 years. People say well this is good cause it was a rebuilding year. Well wasn't last year a rebuilding year? So we have had two rebuilding years in a row. That means next year should be a really good year for us right? But honestly do you see this team being that much better next year? I know I see a team that probably will once again at best get 3 SEC wins. So our current level is not that great. Is it better than is use to be, no doubt. Is there reason to believe that we are going to make the next step with the current staff in place. NO! I mean there are really no signs at all pointing in that direction. So why is it important to keep the staff intact, and have Joker as the next coach? Unless I guess people are just content with what we are and that is being a 3 win SEC team. Look at what UT spent on assistant coaches. It catches up with you. All other schools besides maybe Vandy put football first, UK does not and will never do that. How is UK going to compete with UF or Bama or Tennessee in the long run? They can't. 1 for financial reasons, two because those are huge jobs. UK would be nothing more than a pit-stop for a quality coach. Sure it's the SEC, but it's most likely one of the worst 3 jobs in the SEC by a long shot. UK isn't going to get a huge name coach. They wouldn't be able to get Stong (PM me if need be), and other big names are a joke. Do BK or Petersen have UK on their radar? I'd love to see them being asked that question. In an interview process they might be able to draw someone like Leach. We've tried that and it doesn't work and with the improvements in the SEC that you have stated it would probably be even less effective for winning SEC games. I'm happy with 3 wins.....because it's reality. UK is a joke of a job when compared to most of the SEC, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech probably still Nebraska. For a "rising" program it's not even on the level of an Oregon or WVU. Do you know why? Those are FOOTBALL SCHOOLS. UF won two straight BBall titles and no one cared in Gainesville, the next season they couldn't even sell out SEC home games. It's a job where coaches go to die. Rich Brooks has done wonders and he's even getting critcized. Save this post if you want, and in 20 years if UK is on top of the football world (meaning competing for championships for a few years and winning one) throw it in my face. I guarantee you won't be able to. I wish UK was an Ohio State or Alabama but it's not and never will be. It's okay to dream, but let's be realistic. No quality candidate is going to apply at UK and if they do they probably won't have the resume of Joker. Dan Mullen might have taken the job, but I think Urban would have advised him not to. Even when you win at UK you still lose. Ask Brooks.
December 2, 200916 yr ^^UK would need someone like Lane Kiffin to take them to the next level. A guy like that isn't coming here. I'd think it would have to be an NFL guy who is a "used-car dealer type of talker" as a recruiter with a quality staff. And a huge supply of money.

He is one of the primary reasons that the recruiting has been MUCH better at UK and like Belotti at Oregon, Brooks believes he is ready to be the guy. Brooks also believed in Belotti when many Duck fans did not. They will tell you to this day that it turned out to be the right choice. Why trash a guy who has been a major part of UK having a much better program than in years past? Simply amazing to me.
