I offer the following fact and question…

 

July 15, 1942 a flight of six P-38s and two B-17 bombers departed Maine bound for Britain. Foul weather and icing caused them to put down near the southeastern border of Greenland. The aviators were rescued, but the aircraft were abandoned. Fifty years later, a recovery team labored to extricate one of the P-38s from beneath 268 feet of ice… yep, you read right… 268 FEET of ICE. And this was in an area of Greenland SOUTH of the Arctic Circle.

 

If the latter half of the 20th Century is indeed the warmest on record, and If indeed, the proposed enhanced greenhouse effect over the previous 50 years was caused by human activities. How the frig did a WWII aircraft sitting near the southern shore of Greenland get trapped under nearly 270 feet of ice?

 

Why hasn’t the ocean risen measurably in the past few years as Al Gore warned due to melting Arctic ice?

 

Could it be that while Arctic ice is measurably receding, Antarctic ice is growing at record rates?

 

Could it be solar activity and the 23 degree tilt of the earth on its axis in relation to the sun that is the primary cause of climate activity… (…just as it has been for centuries?)

 

This would indicate the complexity of a much more durable system “designed” by an intelligence on a level far beyond anything comprehensible by simple humans like Al Gore.

 

I find it interesting that Al Gore quoted Mark Twain in his movie “An Inconvenient Truth”:

 

"What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so."

 

Interesting how Al is so sure of an issue that he has staked his entire future on a premise that will not only bite him, but will devour him big time before it’s all said and done.

I got an e-mail on this situation and then I saw it on Fox News this morning as well. One of the NY papers in 1922 had an article about the Arctic ice melting. It was determined that glaciers had disappeared and ships could sail further north than they had in decades, if not centuries. The scienctists of that time determined that the Gulf Waters were responsible for this. Later the waters cooled and the ice returned. So, why is it so hard for some to see that the earth has long term cycles that it goes through?

One reason I do not believe in global warming is that man is not greater than God. We can do local damage, but we cannot change the order God has created. Then there is historical evidence to show the cycles the earth has been through.

We can pollute the local waterways or the air, but with this great world that God created, we cannot change the weather with this pollution. The earth will overall clean itself. The changes in weather, once again, are natural cycles that the earth goes through.

I'll admit my post 123 is a bit lengthy but I seriously would like someone... anyone… to answer my question about the P-38 that became known as "The Glacier Girl"...

That's a 27 story building worth of ice accumulating in just 50 years... at an average rate of 5.4 feet per year… during what we’re told were 50 of the fastest warming years on record.

 

It appears to me that either the claims global warming are not valid as presented… or a miracle occurred over a 50 year period in Southeastern Greenland.

Interesting read in the Ft. Myers Weather Examiner. If you look at all the cold weather records set and broken since 1937, it provides a different insight into Global Warming from what we're being told. The following are just a few excerpts:

 

"Florida is winning the jackpot on the current cold wave. Records are falling, much like temperatures. Record low daytime highs and record overnight and early morning lows have punctuated the landscape across the entire peninsula for several days. And this morning, January 6, almost every reporting location in south Florida set or came close to setting record lows for the day.

 

With clear skies, light winds and low dew points, the mercury tumbled in our area this January 6th morning. Fort Myers with a low of 34 degrees already breached its record low for the date (36 degrees last set in 1956). West Palm Beach recorded a 35 (previous record low was 37 degrees last set in 1967), while Tampa broke through its record low of 30 (set in 1999) with a 27-degree reading. Miami and Naples tied their record lows (set in 1919 and 1999, respectively).

 

Looking ahead

 

Temperatures today across south and central Florida are only expected to rise into the 50’s. This will almost guarantee that records for low maximum temperatures will again fall by the wayside. Naples will likely crush its old record of 64 (set in 1980) as its temperature only reaches about 54 degrees. Even Miami is only expected to reach 59 degrees (its old record low maximum is 62 also set in 1980). Tampa is about the only major city that is NOT expected to set daytime low maximum readings today.

 

Looking longer term, Naples has already logged 5 consecutive days with overnight lows of 45 degrees or lower. The mercury should again drop into the 30’s Thursday morning yielding a record-tying streak of such cold morning temperatures (last set in December 1989). With cloud cover and a shift in wind direction ahead of the next arctic blast, Naples will not break its record of 8 such chilly mornings set in January 1977.

 

West Palm Beach is likely to tie its streak of 6 consecutive days with minimum temperatures dropping below 50 degrees again on Thursday morning. But it won’t even come close to the record of 12 consecutive cold morning days set in December 2000 - January 2001 and in January 1956.

 

Regardless of the record streaks, temperatures have been running about 15 degrees below average across most of the state since the start of 2010. Temperatures probably won’t return to near “normal” (30-year average) values until the middle of next week at the earliest.

 

Weather Records Elsewhere

 

If you think that you are alone in the deep freeze, think again. Europe, China and other places in the Northern Hemisphere (it’s winter here and summer “down under”) have received record-breaking snows and experienced abnormally cold weather. In England (United Kingdom – UK), the Met Office, that nation’s weather service, noted that their current cold spell, in place for some three weeks, was, “the most prolonged spell of freezing conditions across the UK since December 1981.” Recent snows have seriously disrupted travel across the country. France fared no better. Snow and ice disrupted transportation and forced the closure of the Eiffel Tower.

 

Even Russia was buried by record-breaking snowfall. St. Petersburg reported breaking a 130-year snowfall record. City residents were even asked to help out with snow-clearing efforts. According to one report, the city mayor’s office purchased several thousand shovels in support of this plea.

 

Bejing, was smothered by its the heaviest daily snowfall (12 inches) in nearly six decades on January 3, according to the country’s Central Meteorological Administration. In nearby Seoul, South Korea, 10 inches of snow fell, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration. This was the greatest snowfall since record-keeping began in 1937. Hundreds of airplane flights were cancelled and train and highway travel was seriously disrupted.

 

As if the snow wasn’t enough of a problem, the temperature in Bejing plummeted to 4 degrees Fahrenheit, the coldest reading there in more than 20 years."
