Well, last year Highlands had a close game against a very good Johnson Central team in the regional final game, which was held at JC. I remember a lot of knowledgeable Highlands fans saying that JC was the best in-state opponent HHS faced in 2008. I think the game really came down to Rosenhagen's fumble return for a HHS TD in that game last year.

 

In 2007 Highlands was not really tested in the eastern side of the 5A playoff bracket.

 

Prior to that, when it was the old 3A, the eastern bracket was a beast, with teams like Highlands (who won state in 2004), CovCath (who won state in 2006), LexCath (who won state in 2005), Bell County, Rockcastle County and Johnson Central all contending for a spot in the state finals.

 

This year, if you look at the state polls there is HHS at number-one, then several western-bracket teams following them, and then some other eastern-bracket teams at the bottom on the top-10 in 5A. So, it does seem that the eastern braket (minus HHS) is down this year.

I think Highlands had one fumble and got it back(no turnover). I believe Abner had an interception for the birds.

Wow... no TOs for HHS? That's great! Equally impressive is that HHS won the game so lopsidedly while only getting one DH TO.

 

Was this game Highlands's best all-around effort of the year? The defense made quite a statement limiting DH's offense to 0 points.

 

There may be some out there who are AS GOOD, but I can't believe there is a BETTER defensive coordinator out there than Highlands' Weinrich.

52 to 9 without Bardo and 49 to Zip tonight with him. 101 to 9 is a statement.

 

Not to kick a dead horse :deadhorse: but think how many points HHS has scored and not given up to a team Dave Brossart was either the head or assistant coach on, in the last three years.

It may be a joke to some but Highlands schedule is not as easy as most in the State of KY. Highlands scrimmaged Male and played Ryle (2 times), Cincinnati Withrow and Cincinnati St. X which manhandled our 6A top teams. So, Highlands may appear to have an easy road to State but in my opinion there is no easy road to State!!!

The statement by the Birds in this one is the shutout. Talk all you want about the offense, but the Birds defense this year is what makes this team perhaps the best HHS team. Shutting out Dixie is IMPRESSIVE!!

 

Wow. Impressive for a team that pass defense isn't even in the top 15 in NKY.

Our group last night was talking about the huge number of playmakers they have all the way down to the freshmen. Look at the 4 deepest return men they had on kickoff returns! Pick your poison.

Highlands does not have a weakness on this team. You can't pass or run on them. If you can stop the run they will throw it over the top on you. If you can stop the pass they will run it down your throat. On special teams they cover extremely well (#25 stuck out last night) and they field punts. Johnson Central is in for a long night. *Take care of the ball Birds and no one stays within four scores. Johnson Central will need to score at least 28 points to win. Highlands doesn't give up 28 points to anyone.

I could not agree with you more. Wes has impressed me all year, but last night he really impressed the heck out of me. Kid was hurt but kept going out there busting his behind. I looked for him after the game on the field when the coaches and parents got finished talking to them but he had already left the field. I really wanted to tell him what a fine football player he was. I was also impressed with Klei and Wilson. There are some real gamers on that team who left every thing they had on the field. Well done young men; well done.

 

Wes and Wilson have 2 of the biggest hearts that I've seen at Dixie. Wes had 2 bad wheels last night and did not want to sit. When the coaches pulled, him he stood there in their ears pleading to go back out there. Wilson has taken some of the biggest hits I've seen this year, and he always gets back up. It's been a pleasure watching these 2 kids the past couple years.

 

The biggest adjustment of the game last night was when Highlands went to 0 down linemen after Wilson ran on them on their 2nd drive. Dixie had no clue how to handle that.

I wonder why they weren't prepared for that. It was prominent on the film of the game against Montgomery County. In fact, MC made some in game adjustments, and their quarterback got up under center and ran a sneak several times, with a little success. He didn't run for 30 yards or anything like that, but did make a couple of gains.:idunno:
