I don't mean this in any derogatory manner, but the Highlands faithful were all talking about the great speed on their JV team last year before the JV game with X at Highlands. The Birds found out during this game what real speed looked like (go back a year and look at the thread), and most then recalibrated themselves.

 

In terms of "X people think Ryle will look like Boone", this could not be further from the truth. Most of us had the pleasure of watching the Ryle vs. Simon Kenton game on Fox Sports Ohio so we know better. We were especially impressed with the 29 points the Raiders hung up on a tough Pioneer defense in the 2nd half.

 

Actually, reading back through this thread, it's obvious that a lot more St. X. people have seen and know more about the current Ryle team than vice-versa. The Raider fans seem to know very little about our current players at St. X. :idunno:

 

Fair enough. The SK game was one of those just like this USF-Rutgers game I'm watching where one supposedly very good team did not show up and play like normal. It happens. Ryle played VERY poorly vs. SK and have made 5 lineup changes since that game. HIghlands would have "running clocked" us if we played vs. Highlands like we did vs. SK. As to tomorrow, night, it will be a great game. We know that X is a super team and great program, great facilities, etc.. I can assure you that both teams respect each other but have zero fear of each other. That's the way sports should be.

Morgan, Burtraw, Franke and Schmitz were not near as fast as Carney, Boggs and Eubanks. You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Elliott is faster than Murray and Gray - sorry. The D-line and O[line this year is faster. Murray and Gray carried the team but they were not blazers.

 

 

Morgan and Schmitz were both on the 4x100 that qualified for state 2 years in a row. Franke was every bit as fast as those 2.

You started talking about 40 times and now switched to 100m, there is a very big difference. You are right, in the 100 these guys were faster but in the 40 not so. As far as Franke and Burtraw, good athletes but not as fast as the others. Like you, I also know more than you might think. We can agree that both teams show similar speed. Overall team speed goes to 09.

NO surprise by X's speed. X is nearly as fast as Highlands but not quite the overall team speed of the Birds. So, Ryle has seen speed like this twice. I think X people think Ryle will look like Boone.

Tiger fans have to be encouraged that the key injured players of the last few weeks are getting back close to 100% just at the right time. This team is ready.Go Tigers!

I have not seen Highlands play this year. I have seen Ryle play Simon Kenton on Fox Sports South. I think St. Xavier will prevail.

 

As far as speed, this year St. Xavier team has what I call "football speed". They have their share of the track stars who can run the 40s and 100s in great times. But they also have the ability to just run down ball carriers on defense, they take great angles to the ball, and they can cut and go on offense without losing a step, and the line can really get out in front of the backs when needed.

 

I am glad we will be getting some players back for this game. We will need them against this Ryle team. I am really impressed with the tight end play of Ryle as well as the QB and RBs.

I really believe that both teams do things with class and it will be a great game. I do agree that trench play is much more important in this game because any speed differences are slight. Great night for football. Go Raiders!
