Playoff Changes

What’s the difference in them getting the chance to compete in the previous 10 weeks (regular season)?

They should play the regular season, but should earn the right to play in post season. Not everyone earns that chance and those that do not should not be given it.

Every Basketball (boys and girls), Baseball, Softball, Volleyball and Soccer team (boys and girls) makes the playoffs. WHY OH WHY, is it such an issue with some people every year at this time, that most but not all, of the high school Football teams make the playoffs?

I doubt that any current player, coach or parent involved with football wants to reduce the number of teams in the playoffs. I'll bet most of those complaining are not or were not football players, are not coaches or parents of football players.

To quote a GREAT sports movie, "Let them play, let them play, let them play!"

Do you have anything to back that claim up? I know in the last two years Monroe County has profited from the games against a 4/3 seed...

I don't buy that the new playoff system isn't producing more revenue...

So all of the four seeded teams, or even the moajority of them, are making money from traveling to the #1 seed to play the game.

It only produces more money because there are more games. If we are doing it just to make money, lets just play from August to July each year, think of all of the money we can make.:dancingpa

I feel this same way towards all of the sports. You should have to earn the right to play in the postseason, not just have it handed to you.

FYI, I have been involved in football as a player and as a parent and I have coached some other sports and I still say this is a mess where everyone or nearly everyone is going to the playoffs. Maybe most of the people here arguing on favor of everyone playing are those that just do not want to see their kids season to end even though they are not on good teams or they were messed over by a true playoff system when they were younger and playing, if they played.

I'm talking about one extra week and you’re talking about a 11 month long season, you must’ve learned your sarcasm from the KY high school playoff, it really is teaching some bad life lessons…:D

And I can't speak for the other teams but I bet Ft. Knox (last year) and Washington Co. (this year) left Monroe Co. with money in the bank...

The only disadvantage to football postseason play being like basketball, softball, baseball, etc - is the time involved - you can't play back to back games in football and it extends the season by about 5 weeks instead of about 3 in basketb

Earn it? Making money? It takes too much time?

Good grief folks, it's one extra week of high school football. Why is it that we gripe and complain constantly about the need to "settle it on the field" in college football, then get ourselves in a complete twist over whether Fort Knox should be allowed to play an extra game at Monroe County on November 7.

Is it really that big of a deal? Did anyone lose last weekend that would have made it to the state finals? Do we have to look at everything with politically tinted glasses and compare high school football to entitlements, capitalism, and calendars? C'mon.

Me like:taz::thumb:

I agree... Another thing some people need to think about is the extra money being generated by the new system which is helping fund better equipment and non revenue generating sports like softball, volleyball, baseball and so on...

Such a myth................90% of schools have seperate accounts for each sport, money is NOT shared across accounts.

Every school in Pike County is like that.

Plus in every other sport the district runner up advances to region- so you lose a game and still advance - that's crazy!

Last years BBall playoffs went from Feb 23 - March 21 2 days short of 4 weeks....if district runner ups didn't advance (which seems dumber than what happens in football) the BBall playoffs could end in less than 3 weeks.

Is that the norm? I always thought revenue generating sports help fund non-revenue sports especially anything concerning title IX.

I would think once a sport reaches profit status the excess goes to the athletic dept. for use as they see fit... Does anyone know for sure how that works?

Schools can no longer have "Football Money", and "Basketball Money", it has to be used for all athletics, Title IX. That is why most schools have booster clubs that do most of the fundraising, the booster club is not part of the school and does not have turn that money over to the school and can keep that money for their sport.

Thanks, sounds like Pike County better hire a CPA...

You got it.

Schools only show the tickets of a sport as actual money taken in.

Everything else is booster ran.

You almost have to do this, as other sports will even try to pull their own. I have witnessed girls programs do 0 fund raising and spend $10-15k, then just look to football or boys basketball to bail them out.
