I listen to the call of all of the games. The announcers John Spears and Tony Burke are awesome in their call of the games. They commented Friday that Bob Kennedy has kept the stats for St. X. for 19 years. He said that he had never done a game where St. X. only ran one play in the 1st quarter, yet led 21-0 after one.

They said Luke Brohm was 4-7 passing for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns against Boone County.

I understand that, but I also believe that you should be able to choose your school for reasons other than because you live in a certain area.

 

People in Louisville choose Manual all the time for their academic excellence, much like X and T, and Manual happens to be one of the most competitive public schools in the state. Magnet programs and a concentration of resources at different locations for specific needs and/or abilities is of great benefit to any school district. Especially if you want to maximize academic potential instead of spreading things piecemeal throughout a county. You seem to think that all I care about is athletics. Academics are the whole purpose for a school to exist, were it not for that then there would be no football team, no basketball team, no marching band(well at most schools anyway), no pep club and no FBLA. The important thing is to commit yourself to excellence in academics so as to draw as many students as possible, not just sit there and stagnate because you know you will have people attending your school no matter what.

 

Growing up in Louisville I have never understood the purpose of restricting someone's scholastic choice. Competition is of great benefit both academically AND athletically.

 

Just a thought to ponder and I agree academics are number #1. Let's say you have a child that is athletic and you have a choose of schools, where do you go. Simple the one with the best program /coach. Not everyone has this choose... Now I am reaching here, but let's say my child is pretty good and may have further potential (don't all parents think this) and they get stuck in a loosing program / and have poor coach; now your really in a pickle? I vote freedom of choose...

The numbers that you pointed to included boys and girls, correct? Not too many girls at St. X or Trinity, right?

 

Why is it that public schools compete and generally defeat privates here in NKY? Are we doing something wrong up here?
