At this point of the year (and only this year) who do you think is the best QB in the league?

BTW, I got my 20 QB's as the top 20 listed on NFL.COM according to passing yardage. My vote goes to Drew Brees.

I know Brees is the trendy pick, but NO has won a couple games with their defense and running the football.

Besides last week's game (even though he threw for 347), Peyton has been on fire and he has a pretty mediocre running game and rookie head coach. To me it's Peyton and a no-brainer at that.

Where's JaMarcus Russell?

Seriously folks, I went with Manning. I think that he's better now than he's ever been.

Later.

Peyton with Brees a close 2nd.

Which one?

I voted before I saw it was just for this season, and I went with Brady. Based on this season it's either Manning or Brees. I like Brees better, but it has to be Manning, IMO. He may be the smartest football player to ever play. I think that if he wants to be a coach, he would be amazing. I think he just seems so far ahead of everyone intellectually that it sets him apart. I think he will be a better player than Brady when it's all said and done, but it's hard to argue with rings when talking about greatness.

Peyton Manning

He's arguably the best QB to ever play, and I think he's playing as good as he's ever played in 2009.

The discussion for this year only begins and ends with Brees and Manning. All things considered, nobody else warrants consideration.

Manning

318 YPG (8.5 YPA)

71.1%

15 TD/4 Int

109.3 Rating

He's been sacked 5 times this season. The Colts are 7-0. He's thrown for 300 yards in six of seven games.

Drew Brees

287 YPG (8.7 YPA)

68.3%

16 TD/6 Int

107.6 Rating

He's been sacked 11 times this season. The Saints are 7-0. He's thrown for 300 yards in four of seven games.

Their numbers are comparable, but at the same time, I think Peyton Manning has clearly been the NFL's best QB to date in 2009.

1) Brees

2) Peyton

3) Rodgers

4) Favre

5) Roethlisberger

When comparing Manning and Brees, do you go beyond sheer numbers and grade their supporting casts?

I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I think Brees clearly has superior weapons surrounding him. I'd call the offensive lines a push...both are playing well, and both QB's are masterful at avoiding sacks, either by moving (in or out of the pocket), recognizing the defense and getting the ball out, or adjusting on the fly. But, seriously, if you had to choose between the skill groups, it's a no brainer...

Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, Mike Bell, Marques Colston, Devery Henderson, Lance Moore, Robert Meachem, and Jeremy Shockey

or

Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, Mike Hart, Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, Austin Collie, Anthony Gonzalez, and Dallas Clark

I'd go with Indy in two spots, TE and #1 WR. The Saints RB trio is clearly better. And, I believe their supporting WR's are better. Additionally, at the two positions where Indy has an advantage, the gap isn't that wide. Colston is a stud and a healthy Jeremy Shockey is one of the better TE's in football.

Just something to consider.

I believe this Saints offense may be one of the most skilled in league history. They have amazing depth offensively, and a QB who is masterful at utilizing it. How do you defend them? I'll go ahead and tell you before someone "lays the blueprint" :D. You pressure Drew Brees. Easier said than done, but if you can't do that, then holding them to 30 points is a good day, IMO.

Good point. Outside of Brees, I don't know if anyone on the Saints is great, but collectively they are an offensive juggernaut. No real lock HOF WR, but it is a very, very good core IMO. I also think that Shockey, when motivated can be one of the premier TEs in the league.

The list says it all with who is listed first. It's Peyton.

Colston could be a HOFer...he's only 26 and on pace for another 1000+ yards, double digit TD season...his third in four seasons. And, he only played in 11 games when he didn't accomplish that. I think Colston is a stud on the outside. Moore is the prototype for a slot receiver, and Henderson and Meachem are great deep threats.

Random thought, but I think they should move Reggie Bush to a full-time slot receiver. I think his skills are better suited for that role...

Dad and I just discussed if he should be a full-time reciever on Monday night. I've got to agree with you on this topic.

Colston is the one that could get in, but it's hard for WR, or at least it seems to be. If him and Brees stay together, I could definitely see it.

For the Bush thing, I have to agree as well. Especially when you see the success that Harvin is having. I think that both were kind of similar in college with their breakaway speed and moves. Bush is even bigger, and I think by his 40-time is faster. I really like Reggie, but obviously he isn't a full-time RB.:thumb:

The Saints have the best overall receiving corps in the league if you include Shockey IMO. Colston, Henderson and Meachem are nothing to sneeze at. Moore's not too shabby either, so Brees definitely has some help but he is still a top 2 QB this season. Arizona would have the 2nd best receiving corp in the NFL IMO. That's another topic though.
