ESPN 30 for 30: Without Bias

Featured Replies

I've been hit-or-miss about watching this series (but I've loved what I've seen).

Do they stream this episode online? Len Bias was one of my all-time favorite players, and remains one of the best college players I've ever seen. He was absolutely, indomitably, undeniably freakin' incredible.

I saw bits and pieces of this one. From what I saw, it was very well done. He was an amazing collegiate player with a total game. I remember when he passed and what a shock it was.

I wish, but no. Wyoming.

Dembo?

Len Bias' story is one of the saddest ever told. It was a great documentary, and the best so far IMO of the 30 for 30. It's such a waste, I always feel terrible when Bias is brought up, and I didn't even get to watch him play.

They're showing it right now; first chance I've gotten to see it. It makes me want to tear up watching the highlights from back then.

I have zero doubt in my mind that Chicago comes nowhere near six championships had Bias lived, and Detroit probably doesn't win any. He and Jordan would have continued to have many, many great battles in the pros.

Not only was he large and athletic, he also possessed a beautiful jump shot. Things could have been very different in the NBA if he hadn't partied that evening.

Kudos to ESPN for putting this series of documentaries together, as they've all been tolerable at worst to excellent at best. But, I really wish someone had done one on the bolded as part of the series. What a great story to tell with Hank Gathers and how everything unfolded. It's a shame a lot of people will read this and have no idea who Gathers is, and what happened.

Coincidentially, I was pouring over some old video the other night and found a Loyola Marymount NCAA tournament game that I had taped. I had no idea I had it, but man it was kind of fun to watch. :thumb:

I think there is going to be a Gathers/Loyola-Marymount show later on. I'd look for it sometime around March Madness. I'm excited about it. Here is an early link from ESPN:

I very much look forward to this.
