November 2, 200916 yr Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford reported third-quarter net income of $997 million, or 29 cents per share. Ford also forecast a "solidly profitable" 2011. Previously the automaker said it would be break-even or better. But Ford still faces obstacles in its turnaround. Last week, workers overwhelmingly rejected an agreement with the United Auto Workers that would have brought Ford's labor costs in line with rivals General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC. Workers objected to clauses limiting their right to strike and freezing entry-level wages, and felt the company was healthy enough and didn't need further concessions. The last quote really gets to me, the UAW should be brought in-line and HAVE TO make the same deal that GM and Chrysler have........by the government. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091102/ap_on_bi_ge/us_earns_ford
November 2, 200916 yr The Union I believe is now part of ownership with GM & Chrysler. Would that be the reason for the hard line with Ford?
November 2, 200916 yr Unions have more power than they deserve these days, want to know why factory jobs are becoming extinct in America? Look no further than labor unions for your answers, some if not most of these assembly line employees at Ford will make more per hour than me when I graduate with my law degree in the spring.

That is a fact !
November 2, 200916 yr Author The Union I believe is now part of ownership with GM & Chrysler. Would that be the reason for the hard line with Ford? Which is a direct conflict in interest. Ford is an example of an American company doing the right thing, but they are getting punished for not filing Ch. 11 and not being in bed with the government and UAW.

I believe that the starting wage under the existing contract is $14.00 per hour.
November 2, 200916 yr I believe that the starting wage under the existing contract is $14.00 per hour. It not starting employees that will make more it's the ones that have been there a while, which I agree does merit some pay but some of these people are making 80 to 100 dollars an hour on an assembly line.

Where did you get the $80 -$100 an hour figure . I guess I was in the wrong union .
November 2, 200916 yr Where did you get the $80 -$100 an hour figure . I guess I was in the wrong union . It was on CNN not to long ago when all this was going down, this may have been at the GMC plant, but they were discussing how some of the factory workers that had been involved since the 60's and 70's were approaching 3 figures an hour, I believe some of that is what their retirement/insurance benefits adds to the cost to pay them per hour too though.

Then it was not all on the check . It included benefits too . By the was what law school are you graduating from . My son graduated in 2005 from UK law and was hired at $90,000 a year with no experience ,of course He was in the top 10% of his class . I was happy for him but I thought that the firm that hired him was crazy .

Verus how much for the people working less hard in the board room and Union office that got the company in this mess.
November 2, 200916 yr Verus how much for the people working less hard in the board room and Union office that got the company in this mess. What evidence do you have to back that up?
November 2, 200916 yr The only way I see anyone on assembly lines making 70 or 80 dollars an hour is if they work maybe a holiday. I have a friend who works at Ford and if they work on a holiday they get triple time. He made $24 an hour last I checked, so he ended up making $72 an hour over a holiday.
