Bell Co. was without Carton tonight. Hes a had a great season. He was out with an injury, but I heard it wasn't too bad. Also, Matt Rains was injured in the 1st half. Hes a key player for Bell, but I think hes okay. Those 2 are great players for Bell and will be key guys in the playoffs for us.

It did take Dudley Hilton four years to get past Cawood when he arrived at Bell County. Cawood was very good then, but this Bell County team is even better.

 

The point about the junior highs could be true, too, though. It's a tough question. I don't know if they could keep all the kids playing at that age if they had to haul them in from Evarts and Cumberland.

 

Some people in Harlan County even complain about the New Harlan team being made up of six elementary schools, but the fact is that the New Harlan team would have trouble competing if it was any smaller.

There are more kids playing football, more parents involved, there are 3 QB's coming in as 9th graders, there are 15 lineman that have started coming in as 9th graders, 3 TB's, etc. When Rockcastle County went to one middle school, the numbers fell drastically and have never recovered; that was in 1994. No way do you want to get rid of what Harlan County has, that is a super positive.

I'm with 3 wishes the more kids playing the better! How many middle schools makes up Letcher Central and/or Bell. Seems like a few schools and 1 team don't provide much playing time, a kid may not be so good in 5th/6th and never get a change to improve (blossom) never getting to play.

 

I will start a thread and we will see what people have to say.

I don't know about not developing. No one gets cut in football and you do have 22 positions, plus special teams and get to show what you can do in practice every day. If you can play and want to play, I don't imagine you'd get lost in the shuffle. Any good players who didn't play would be because they didn't want to play.

I agree. HC has 3 good MS programs and keeping these kids out is the problem. It seems with the 8th grade group that most are excited about playing for the Black Bears.

:thumb:Absolutely agree. I've been griping that Knox county is even doing this with their little league teams. Loading up with just one team gets them a lot of wins but drasticly cuts down on player development. Many local kids are lost to Corbin little leagues looking for playing time on Corbin's multiple team leagues. The more teams, the better.

I think to be on Bell County's level of play it's just going to take nothing more than a tad bit more time. Things are progressing along very nicely. They've come a long way after one full "off season" of work. The kids are learning and improving. Most of all, they've got a different mindset about winning and what it's going to take to win. The coaches are working and molding what athletes they have. The middle school programs in the county are sending them plenty of talent to work with.

 

Coach TL will get HC to the level of Bell, So I agree that in time...They'll be there...

 

I said that i MAY agree that could be the difference, Kids who play together since 5th grade, Through the 12th, Just seem to be better IMO..

Transportation is not a problem. If they want to play, they will have a ride.

Do not kid yourself in believing that every middle school instructs there players the same, therefore Larkey could make sure the fundamentals are being learned in the manner he wants.
