Bell is just better than us. We couldn't stop them on the outside, we done pretty well up the middle but then they would take the next play outside and hardly get touched! That plus stupid penalties equals a loss. Good crowd for the first game of this new rivalry!

I thought other than #23 for Bell Co. the Bears matched-up with the Bobcats very good. This was a very physical game, and the Bears I thought played eye level with the Bobcats in that area. Good Luck to both teams next week.

Not taking anything away from Bell, but our Black Bears didn't really keep their heads in the game and credit Bell for doing things that got to them. That 3rd and 20 on their first possession that turned into a long run took a chunk of our enthusiasm, spirit whatever you want to call and then the fumble just sunk us! I believe had they kept their heads in it the game could have been respectable.

I believe the great competition before the 1st round playoff game was good for HC. Southwestern had the night off and was probably at the game. I would imagine that Southwestern thinks they have the 1st game wrapped up next week after seeing HC get beat so bad by BC. Maybe that is a good thing, especially after the beating SW handed HC in the opening game. Bell Co is a very good team, well coached, and has great athletes. HC didn't have to schedule them and could have got someone weaker, but this game between the two will make HC work harder in the future and someday, will win.

A little surprised by the score and I hope HCC fans recognize that this team is no where near the caliber of Bell County; will HCC be able to contend with Bell Co in future, maybe, but Bell has one middle school team vs. HCC having 3 team. Does it really make a difference, I think it does.

I think to be on Bell County's level of play it's just going to take nothing more than a tad bit more time. Things are progressing along very nicely. They've come a long way after one full "off season" of work. The kids are learning and improving. Most of all, they've got a different mindset about winning and what it's going to take to win. The coaches are working and molding what athletes they have. The middle school programs in the county are sending them plenty of talent to work with.

 

So my assessment of the situation on this Halloween is in the words of the Wicked Witch of the West, "All in good time my pretty's....All in good time......."

Nice one mama bear! I agree, they are coming along pretty good. Good luck to ya. I have seen Bell a couple of times this year, they really seem to be peaking at the right time. I hope HC Black Bears can win it all in 5A.

It seemed they could not tackle #14 Hilton or #22 Mills and cover #28 Davenport either. Or block the DL for Bell. I think #23 is very good but did he make the game 35-7 at the half on his own?

Not sure which game you watched on this one. 23 is a very good player but i'm sure he couldn't have made the plays he did without blocking from the OLine or the QBack doing a very good job. Good job Bobcats on a TEAM effort, we are not one dimensional

Good point.

It did take Dudley Hilton four years to get past Cawood when he arrived at Bell County. Cawood was very good then, but this Bell County team is even better.

 

The point about the junior highs could be true, too, though. It's a tough question. I don't know if they could keep all the kids playing at that age if they had to haul them in from Evarts and Cumberland.

 

Some people in Harlan County even complain about the New Harlan team being made up of six elementary schools, but the fact is that the New Harlan team would have trouble competing if it was any smaller.

I was talking about the speed of #23. Look at Bell Co.'s first 3 plays of the game. The first two plays was negative and then they run a toss to him and he goes for about 60 yards. I would say he was the difference in the game.:popcorn: I believe you take #23 off Bell Co.'s team and this would have been a 14-8 type game. The only problem is he does play for Bell Co. and he is only a Soph.

I can see what you are talking about there. 23 is a good player and i understand what you are talking about. I was just looking at the plays themselves, he has to have the blockers to make the plays.

I don't think it would have been 14-8 Bell has alot more weapons than #23. We didn't need to use them.
