Why is it that when St. X gets beat you say the game didn't mean anything to them??? (Highlands,St. Ignatius). When the prediction thread of the HHS./Cincy X game came out ,you talked like they were the best team in the country. That was after trashing Lou. X and Trinity. Remember when you said "the Birdies will get there's too". You should be glad the Birds didn't play Colerain this year,the Cardinals would have come out flat just like X!!!

 

I agree with what you're saying here, hoosier, but on the flip side, the same thing could be said for people (particularly the Highlands faithful) trying to play down the loss...

Because X got beat by a small school from KY and all things considered that is an embarrassment for X.

It's hard to see a team staying in the nation's top 25 when they have lost 2 games...even though both of those losses were to other top 25 teams.

1) Raiderbird, who seems to have pretty well established him/herself as a Highlands fan throughout the various BGP threads, said: "St. X had 4 turnovers that led to 12pts for St. Iggy...."

 

2) I wasn't challenging the truth of the statements. I was only saying that hoosierbirdfan was pointing out CardinalsFan's tendency towards downplaying St. X in order to show that Colerain's loss to them wasn't a big deal, while others are playing down St. X's loss to St. Ignatius, thus reflecting a little more positively on Highlands' victory over St. X. People are playing the same game in different manners.

As the one who posted it, allow me to answer. Often, scores for out-of-state teams are posted on BGP, when those out-of-state teams have played KY competition during the season. Given that Cincy Saint X played arguably the three best KY prep football programs in back-to-back-to-back weeks this season, it seemed appropriate to post this game outcome.

 

Also, there are a lot of Highlands fans on BGP (myself included), and I think I speak for all of us when I say that we Highlands fans have been cheering Saint X on this season, after HHS beat them. The reason is self-serving... the better Cincy Saint X does the better that HHS win looks at a regional/national level. Heck, I noticed where one of the national rankings services moved HHS down in the rankings this week and cited St. X's loss to St. Iggy as the reason for the move down. If St. X goes on to be considered the best team in Cincy this year (or better yet, if they win state and are considered the best in Ohio), then it looks really good for HHS. I must admit that I was disappointed to see St. X lose to St. Iggy.

And that all makes perfect sense to me. I just didn't think the powers that be on this site would allow it. Great topic, IMO.

 

RE: bolded above - then you are going to be REALLY disappointed after Saturday night! X loses to Moeller for their 3rd loss of the year, loses the GCL title, and finishes 2nd in the Harbin rankings to start the playoffs. Will still host in Round 1 however.

 

I think St. Ignatius is a little overrated as well this year. They are playing very well but I just think Ohio, overall, is down this year. I think whoever wins region 4 (Cincinnati/Dayton) is going to lose in the state semi-final to the region 3 (Columbus) winner.

 

No matter what happens from here on out on the north side of the river, Highlands will always have that win and as history plays out, no one is going to remember what St. Xavier did this year, just that Highlands beat them.
