Since I was publicly accused of purposely voting against Highlands last week, let me go on record right now by stating that I have voted for Highlands to beat Scott! Check the poll if you'd like.:irked:

The statement I made seems pretty benign. Should I assume most votes are by accident? :confused:

Serious question here: If you were a talented football player in Kenton County (with open enrollment amongst Scott, Simon Kenton and Dixie for those not familiar with the situation), what would be your reasoning for going to Scott?

I think Highlands wins big. I'm sure the Scott players will play their hearts out,and I respect them for that,but the birds have too much talent. Hope everbody comes out injury free.

Nevertheless if the score is 40-14 you'll from a few out there how vulnerable the Birds are. I don't believe Coach Mueller will have any desire to try to put up some huge number against Scott. That being said when non starters get into the game their effort will be as intense as the starter they replaced. What may look like, "running up the score" is simply kids who work their tails off all year long getting an opportunity to play.

Your absolutely right in this case. I think Highlands 2 nd team will be able to score against Scott easily. The fewest point their defense has given up all year is 20. If your second team is in the game you can't tell them to lay down and not produce. They are in essence trying out for next year.

 

 

I think the whole open enrollment thing creates a problem for a team like Scott. Good players just aren't going to come to Scott when they have the choice to go to a established good football program. I think the whole open enrollment is a huge advantage to some schools and a huge disadvantage to programs like Scott's.

Open enrollment does hurt the football program but I guess it evens out in other sports because I know for a fact Scott gets kids from open enrollment in their other sports like basketball and baseball.

Getting a little off the original thread here but how is open enrollment even fair? What about other schools that are limited to their district. Thats like a Campbell County School playing an all-star team from Kenton county. Is it just me or can someone explain how this is a fair playing field. Does anyone know how many counties throughout the state have open enrollment. I would also be curious to see if they have schools in Scott's predicament.

In the area where I live, boys go to Cov Cath, St. Henry, Beechwood, Villa, Covington Latin, Holy Cross, Highlands and Dixie. I don't think Kenton Co's open enrollment policy matters much...:idunno:

I don't think open enrollment makes much of a difference in the football program for Kenton County. Everyone talks about football, but does it also make a difference in other sports like basketball, baseball, golf? You can pay tuition to attend other public or private school's as well. I know of some high school boys who left Dixie and went to Scott. It had nothing to do with sports, it was about attending a school where they previously had lived and had friends.

I remember it was like 64-0 in the 3rd quarter with the starters still in. I've also seen lopsided scores from HHS and Scott 80+ on the board. This one shouldn't be any different, regardless of 1st team or seconds playing.

There is no need to run up the score at all. A win is a win whether it is by 3 points or many more.
