Last year the three games he played he played with a line that couldn't protect him for anything. He also was playing with a receiver who didn't want to be there last year, and had no rhythm with in Chad, and TJ missed a lot of the preseason too. So he had no receivers who he had any practice with going into the season. Now this year they are a more conservative offense, but have moved the ball, but just have shot themselves in the foot. People no catching passes, the line having crucial holds and penalties on plays sure don't help either. This is all reasons why the offense has struggled. Would be hard for any QB to overcome the things he has had to overcome on this team since 2006. I think the biggest problem though for this offense is the offensive coordinator though. He has been the coordinator since 2001 for the Bengals, so teams know what we are going to do. Its not like the Brat is creative at all, its always the same old stuff. I think the majority of the Bengal fans know what play is coming every time. I think with a new offensive coordinator you would see Carson really step up and be very productive and just the offense as a whole being better.
October 21, 200916 yr ^The Bengals offense hasn't played anywhere near what it should be capable of...especially when you consider what they're getting from Benson at RB. Their run game should be opening up some passing lanes. You'd think with a guy like Carson Palmer and some talented receivers they could produce more. Coles has been awful for the most part. And, sadly, the TE's in Cincinnati make him look good. If the Bengals are going to insist on TE being a big part of the offense, then they absolutely have to get a dependable guy in that position. I'd love to see them go 3-wide more frequently with Ochocinco, Caldwell and Henry. I'd love to see them put Brian Leonard in at TE on some passing downs. Either him, or Coffman. If they're going to insist on using a formation with a TE, you HAVE to have somebody who can catch the ball. It's clear that Coats cannot & Foschi isn't great either. I know the Bengals came in to this year, wanting to be a running team. However even though the Bengals are 4 and 2, I don't think that philosophy has helped to much in winning games. It takes till the final two minutes when they are passing when the offense usually scores. So I just wish they would open things up like they did back in 2005. They have a good line that can protect Palmer, and good receivers. I mean in 2005 and 2006 they were winning games because of the offense even while having a bad defense. Well now they have a good defense, so why not go back to the offense that actually was doing good. I mean in 2005 even though we really opened up the offense, we still were a very good running team. I think Rudi Johnson ran for 1400 yards that year. So we can still be a good running team, even while opening things up. Go three wide and 4 wide more, put Coffman on the field. He will cause matchup problems for the linebackers and most importantly catch the ball. I mean it would just be a shame if we actually have a pretty good defense now, and then we tie down the offense.

I still am not sure if you agree or disagree with that assessment. Stats wise yeah he is not up there anymore with them. However I still would take him over many of the QB's in the NFL. A lot of things has changed since the 05 and 06 seasons with the Bengals. I really think if you put Palmer in for some of these other QB's in the systems they play, and he does just as good if not better than most of them. People on here seem to act like he just is not as good anymore. However I guess the real question should be is if you put this Palmer, into the same 2005 offense with the same players back then on offense. Do you think he would be as good as he was that year? I say yes he definitely would be as good. I think he is the same QB as he was then, and probably even smarter than then. Just the team around him and how they do things have changed. Not to mention the Bengals as I said have a coordinator who all the teams have figured out now and are just predictable.
