But when Mao is one your 2 favorite philosophers and you idolize him that is a problem.

 

It is certainly a problem when you use Mao's quote to set a tone that physical violence may or will be used against your political opposition - “We kind of agree with Mao that power comes largely from the barrel of a gun.”

I think this is much ado about nothing. She merely pointed out that she liked Mao's philosophy of "you fight yours and I'll fight mine."

 

Its like saying that when it comes to running back philosophy that you like OJ for the way he believes in using the cut. You're not endorsing him as a human being. You're picking one facet of his profession/skill and citing it.

 

Can we all agree that many hated leaders had something in their background that could be plucked and used by good guys? That's all I heard in this.

I am a firm believer that you can learn things from anybody and I am also a firm believer that you need to know your enemy. Therefore, I agree that quoting Mao or even saying that Mao was one of your favorite philosophers isn't by itself all that significant.

 

However, given her political inclinations, that kind of comment has caught people's attention. The idea that a member of the Obama administration would be a communist sympathizer is hardly a stretch. I'm sure there are people right now looking into what she has said and done in the past. While this particular comment of hers is much ado about nothing, I would not be surprised at all if they find other more damaging comments. Time will tell.

I think you're making a big jump. Now as Shooter says we may find out down the road that she's what you fear. I just don't think we can make that jump yet. We also miss her point completely by focusing on a buzzword or two.
