JohnnyDrama Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Game was tied at 28 when Ras Brittion scored on a 33-yard run and Joe Slaughter ran in the conversion with 1:06 remaining. Win gives Shawnee homefield advantage in at least the first round of the playoffs. Elizabethtown QB Kyle Todd was intercepted three times, the last coming in the end zone as time expired.
JohnnyDrama Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 No. Shawnee was 4-3 (1-0) coming in. E'town was 2-5 (0-1).

JohnnyDrama Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 I don't think this was an upset... If you look at the last 10 years since the teams have been in the same district, it is. E'town beat Shawnee every year since 1999. But Shawnee was definitely the better team tonight.
oldonetechnique Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Man what a night in Highschool football, was this an upset?
PigSkinFan42 Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 What's happened to E-Town didn't they make apretty strong run in the playoffs last year?
ColonelMike Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 What's happened to E-Town didn't they make apretty strong run in the playoffs last year? Etown made a tremendous run LAST YEAR in the playoffs, with a talented QB, tremendous receivers, and speed. Most of that talent is GONE. The name alone doesn't win games. I'm a big believer in the power of tradition, but it only does so much. This is a Panther team averaging about 30 yards a game on the ground and giving up over 200 yards per game on the ground. This is an Etown team that hadn't scored over 8 points since Week two (a 42-39 win over Spencer County)... Etown had lost three in a row and came into the game with a 2-5 record...including in that losing streak was a 14 point loss to an average 2A Glasgow team. On the season, Etown has only won one game on the field; their second win was a forfeit win over Brossart when Bishop Brossart had to cancel due to the flu. In short - while I don't mean to sound like I'm slamming Etown - this is NOT your father's Etown team. Coach Brad Todd has done a tremendous job throughout his time at Elizabethtown, and they've had some great teams over the years. Just not this year. Shawnee, on the other hand, returns a lot of kids who finished strong last year, winning three of their last four, including a solid win over a very good Western team. They are very athletic, and if you can't defend the run, you're asking for trouble. The Golden Eagles had a couple of puzzling losses - certainly the one point loss to Ludlow doesn't make much sense, in retrospect - it appeared to me that Shawnee presented some matchup problems for the Panthers. So, no, I don't think this was an upset. Elizabethtown (2-6) is facing the prospect of finishing as the #4 team in the district if they don't beat Moore (2-6) next week. Moore is very one-dimensional - their passing game is almost non-existent - but they have some awfully fast runners that will challenge a sub-par Panther run defense. That game is anything but a forgone conclusion...
jdbaker12 Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 This was an upset, I coach at Moore when Shawnee beats a usual contender in E'Town this is. Congrats to Ravon Patterson, he took a job nobody else wanted and making them competitive great for the school and community.

Coach, you're closer to both teams than I am, so I'll certainly defer to your opinion, but... Note that I'm not saying Shawnee is that great yet...I'm simply saying E-town's not that good. They may be a "usual" contender - but I don't think they are this year. The Panthers' lone win on the field was a very narrow, 42-39 win over a Spencer County team that looks headed for a winless district mark in district 4 - the district matched up with the E-town district. Not that many will shed too many tears for the Panthers - Coach Todd will have that ship righted as soon as he has the players to do so!!!! Coach Patterson is doing a fantastic job at rebuilding a team that was very, very down just a little over a year ago...

Like I said: Given the teams' history since moving into the same district, this is an upset. Based on this season, however, this is not an upset.

I totally agree but just like the guy below the name on the jersey was why it was an upset. Now this year Shawnee is better then E'Town, but to be honest with you all 3A football is a little down in general this year.
