Bluegrasspreps.com, the leader for Kentucky high school sports news and discussion, has released the following 5A rankings for October 13, 2009.

1. Highlands at #7 Covington Catholic (10/17)

2. Bowling Green at Doss

3. John Hardin vs. Waggener

4. Christian County - OPEN

5. Owensboro vs. Hopkinsville

6. Anderson County vs. South Oldham

7. Covington Catholic vs #1 Highlands (10/17)

8. Oldham County at Grant County

9. Ashland vs. Montgomery County

10. Dixie Heights - OPEN

With the exception of Highlands vs. CovCath, it doesn't appear the top 10 will be too challenged this week...

The Cov Cath/Dixie rankings are kind of interesting. I'm not sure whether or not I'd question them, per se, but if you look at the teams that both schools have played thus far, Dixie won with larger point spreads against Beechwood and Scott, and lost by a smaller spread to Ryle. As far as points are concerned, the only team Cov Cath has done "better" against is New Cath. Dixie beat them by 12, and Cov Cath by 14.

 

They'll be playing next week, but I guess perhaps at this point in the season, the Cov Cath/Highlands matchup this Saturday will provide a better gauge of Dixie and Cov Cath stand up against each other.
