Harlan County 32 North Laurel 26

NL needs to stay focused on the next game. It is a great possibility they can beat Whitley Co. They have a stingy defense and plenty of skill on the offense. They were playing w/o their starting QB and had another good player on the sideline for discipline reasons. NL could have won this game as easily as HC did. All it would have taken in OT would have been an extra point. Don't count yourselves out NL. You are still in the running for a playoff spot and a winning season.

I think that they could beat Whitley now too. I thought that WC would have taken this district but after getting beat by Letcher anything is now possible for this district.

Can someone give us a run down on the standings in the district?

Here goes (head to heads too hard to keep up with)

Whitley 2-1

Harlan Co 2-1

LCC 2-1

PCC 2-1

NL 1-2

Clay 0-3

Basically, the only team that has virtually 0 shot is Clay, but they are mathematically still in it. Noone is unbeaten. 2 wins guarantees nothing except a shot at making the playoffs.

NL MUST win 1 of if not both of the next 2 district games (at Whitley and at LCC) to qualify. If they only win 1 of them, they will need help. If they win both, they should be in. This district is as well balanced a district as I have seen in the state so far. By far, the most competitive district in the mountains.

I am not sure what the tiebreakers are, ... but they better get the computer used for figuring it out warmed up. Looks like they will need it. I am with Rico, .... my head hurts just trying to figure it out. I guess we have 3 more weeks to sort it out. This should be a very exciting couple of weeks.

A 5 team district is pretty easy to figure. But when you get into a 6-team district, it really gets complex. If they stopped the season today, NL and Clay would be outside looking in.

Still, ... considering that they had not won a district game since 2005 or 2006, ... NL should finish the season at least at 5-5. They were 2-8 last year in a district that is much tougher (top to bottom) than last year. Coach Larkey has already done a masterful job in resurrecting the program. To get in the playoffs, would have to make him District COY. I still think he probably should be COY anyway considering the outlook coming into this season was just rebuild for the future. Luckily, his attitude is that he wants to win now and not wait til next season. If they were in the other district, they would be sitting at 2-0 (with wins already over PC and SL) and would have a shot to win that district.

Same here. I am not going to even try. Talk about parity. Last year, it was Whitley County then everyone else. This year, several teams have stepped up to make this a very competitive district. The next 3 weeks will be uber-exciting.

If Clay County beats Letcher Central and Whitley County beats North Laurel. 4th places will come down to the winner of the LCC vs. NL game at Letcher. If NL beats both, they will be #2 and Harlan County #1 assuming they beat PCC. All 6 teams are still in it but every team is banking on another teams performance for where they will end up.

Personally, I would like to see Harlan & NL as the top 2 seeds. Having all 3 Larkeys in the same district (for those who don't know, Tom at Harlan and Chris with brother Dackery at North), is nice to see and would like to see them both in the playoffs!!!

This could also be NL a #1 seed and HC a #2 seed if NL wins out, HC wins and PC beats WC. That would offer up a 3 way tie and NL wins the tiebreaker with HC getting 2nd and Perry Central 3rd and Letcher Central 4th, with Whitley and Clay County missing the playoffs.

I know it's confusing, so I may be missing something.

If Harlan County wins out, they would be 4-1 and North Laurel would be 3-2.

Do you mean if Harlan County wins this week and loses to Clay?

Yes, what you said.

I know I'm pulling for Harlan County to win the next two games but I will never figure out who I'm supposed to be hoping wins the other games in our district. It's all very confusing. :ohbrother:

For Harlan County, it would help for someone to beat Whitley.

If it's a two-way tie with Letcher Central, Harlan County would be the No. 1 seed.

Of course, Harlan County has to win the next two weeks. It looks like the Bears are the underdogs again this week.

All two-way ties are determined by who won in the heads up game..
