I missed the game.. How was it so close in 1st half?

I agree, and Middlesboro was a much better team last year than this year's version on Knott County Central. It takes much more than one game to solidify yourself as a Mr. Football Candidate and not against a 1-7 team. I know Watkins is a great player though, I'd just be interested to see his game by game stats against each opponent to judge him for Mr. Football. Does anyone have that?

 

I don't know his game by game stats, but here are his stats according to the KHSAA, which do not include last night's game.

 

842 rushing yards on 88 carries(9.57 per carry) in 6 games.

166 receiving yards on 6 catches(27.67 per catch).

 

If you add in last night's game, his average per carry goes up to 11.39 yards.

Watkins' rushing numbers -

Harlan - 160

Danville - 228

North - 82 on only 11 carries

South - 86

Hazard - 140

GRC - 146

Knott - 275

I kept up with this until right after halftime and then when Watkins kept scoring I quit. some ballgame until halftime not much of a defensive game. It looks like to me that Corbin wasn't ready to play or they had some sick.

Matthew Taylor did not travel with the team--- came down with the swine flu Tuesday night. Aaron Manns and Ryan Fritts missed a couple of practices due to illness. However, our defense did not show up the first half. Part of it was execution and part of it was game plan. Adjustments were made at the half and it was a much better defensive effort. So, it was a combination of circumstances that resulted in this outcome.

Foley got hurt sometime late in the 2nd quarter and never returned...He was standing on the sideline with ice on his ankle, but hopefully it's just a sprain!

I did not expect Corbin to give up this many points in all 3 of their distict games combined let alone in one half. Corbin does not generally run the score up. Watkins numbers are incredible. Only 7 carries indicates the Hounds were not fatting his stats.

Over 11 yards per carry, 2 KO return td's, 1punt return TD, receiving TD's, not sure about defensive TD's, leading tackler on the team. And he works the concession stand when he needs a rest:lol::popcorn: I would love to see his numbers if he got the number carries that others around the state get. Caleb is probably the most impressive player I can remember at Corbin in at least 25 years, and that is saying something, JMO.

 

And you have to consider that this is a Corbin team that the line is undersized against every team they play, Watkins probably out weighs most of the Corbin linemen. Corbin is never a serious threat to throw this season. Caleb is usually the fastest and strongest kid on the field from either side.....
