I have no problem with the Obama's taking the time and the money to try to bring the Olympics to Chicago. The marginal additional cost of them making the pitch is small compared to the prize they were trying to achieve. (Assuming you value being the host for the Olympics.)

 

As far as the media is concerned, there certainly are those on the right who are overplaying the significance of this defeat of Obama's. However, there is no denying that it is a defeat just as there would be no denying it would have been a victory for him if his bid would have been successful.

 

I believe this episode by itself is not signficiant. However, I also believe this is one small example that Obama isn't capable of performing miracles. As Obama accummulates additional and more signficant defeats, the people who voted for Obama will slowly realize that he won't be delivering all that they foolishly hoped he would. Some will become disillusioned with him. Others will not be able to bring themselves to admit that their savior has failed and will find scapegoats for the shortcomings of Obama and his policies. The blank slate of the primaries is being filled.

I was shocked that Chicago didn't get it when the Obamas got involved. With what we have been told is a worldwide love fest for Obama, I thought Chicago would be a shoo-in.

 

I was honestly shocked that they finished 4th. Losing to Rio, I could understand. But 4th??? I was shocked.

 

On a side note, all of the hoopla of Obama failing is ridiculous. But so was the comment made by Rowdy Gaines, who said that there is still ill feeling towards the US from the last 8 year and he felt that was part of the reasoning towards telling Chicago, no.

I remember some criticism about going to China, given that nation's history of human rights violations. But I honestly don't remember him being criticized heavily for the cost of the trip.

Olbermann and guests, Matthews and guests, I remember an editorial in the NYT but don't remember who it was. They were out there talking about Bush vacationing at the Olympics while the economy sank.

I am by no means an Obama supporter but with the push that he gave and his personal appearance and all of the media over here telling us for the past 10 months how much people overseas were in love with him, I thought this was a done deal.

 

I honestly thought that Chicago would get it. It would fit perfect as his crowning piece in 2016 when he will be finishing what I expect but fear will be the end of his 2nd term.

 

I could understand how South America, Rio, could get it being they had never hosted one.

 

But NEVER would I have thought that Chicago and Obama's push would finish 4th out of a 4 horse race.

 

It must have been a smack of reality to Obama and Oprah that not everything they touch turns to gold.
