Jeremiah Neal puts the Tigers up 7-0 with an 8-yard run in the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, Wyatt Gray hits a 41 yard fieldgoal to extend the St. X. lead to 10-0. With 10 seconds to go in the first half, Trinity hits the scoreboard with a record 57 yard field goal by Nick Robertson to make the halftime score 10-3.

 

Wyatt Gray adds two more field goals for the Tigers in the third quarter to raise the count to 16-3. Then as the final moments of the game tick off the clock, St. X. finishes its scoring with a 33 yard option run for paydirt by Brian Buehner.

 

On the conversion kick after the final TD, the Tigers 3rd team extra-point team takes the field and mass confusion ensues. As the ball is snapped, the unlisted sophomre kicker finds himself facing the wrong way. With everyone screaming for him to hurry and kick, he develops a rush of superhuman strength and pounds the ball through the uprights at the opposite end of the field.

 

After a 15 minute conference by the officials, Trinity is awarded the extra-point instead of St. X.

The Tigers have duplicated the same victory margin they had over the Rocks this year in National Merit Semi-Finalists.

Ox...you outdid yourself on that post. I kept wondering how the 4th point was going to be scored. You explained it simply! I bet the unnamed soph kicker will also wear #6 as X always seems to have two kickers on the squad each year with that number! This year having three #6's will probably be the case! Must be a nightmare for the stats crew!

Excited for the game and tailgate. Looking forward to victory tomorrow and in B-Green. I hope everone remembers the spirit of the game and behaves in the parking lot. It is HIGH SCHOOL and people should have fun and not get out of control with the "diet cokes".

 

These games usually come down to a play or two and X has been on the short side the last couple December battles. Being the Decemeber games have been 6-7 points for last few years I will never concede Trinity much ahead of us.

 

Go Tigers

This is a hard one for Trinity. Based on past experience, you have to give the edge to X. Not only have they played better so far this season, you would also have to give them the edge based on performance during the entire Beatty era. Playing quarteback at Trinity is the hardest (and best) job in local high school football. The offense is complicated and takes a long time to learn. That gives an early advantage to teams that hand off a lot and throw to spots. When Trinity has an inexperienced quarterback, which I'll define as five or fewer previous starts, Beatty coached teams are 1-5 against X. When Trinity has an experienced quarterback, defined as ten or more previous starts, Beatty coached teams are 7-0 against X. Regardless of who plays Saturday, they will be the least experienced quarterback Beatty has started against X. X also has the revenge factor. Let's face it. There have been several times this decade when they have had everything going for them but they seem to always come up short when it matters most. I'm sure that eats at them. Every time they start to boast about how the pendulum has started to swing, that pendulum hits them in the teeth. Despite that, I have started to see significant improvement in this team. They are getting better every week. Have they improved enough at this point in the season? We'll find out. I have a good feeling about this team. They will be there at the end. In an upset, Trinity 16, X 7.

One of the fun things about Mike Glaser and the rest of the X guys is that they never want to let facts get in their way. The truth is that for most of the last 42 season Trinity has a clear edge over X in big school football. It eats at them. They twist the record to try to make it look different. Some people get mad when they do that. I get a really big chuckle out of it. Every time Mike - I had the best team in 05, 07 and 08 - Glaser opens his mouth it makes me smile. I really hope he gets to add one more team to his list of best teams that didn't win the title this year.

Yes true and titles are great but I wouldnt trade the last 6 years the tigers have had. The program is in good shape, on solid ground and is producing some great football from great young men. :thumb::thumb::thumb:

You know what -- I really do think that is the truth. At least going into the game - or maybe throughout the game as well. However, they did not "get the job done." A "not as talented - not as strong - not as deep" team rose up and did the 'unthinkable". Not only once - but several times. Took from them their prize. So, in the end, what does that really say ?????
