Beechwood will be fine. They are still the team to beat in 1A and will have the next six weeks to get things rolling.

If anyone ever needs proof that football games are won at the line of scrimmage, just tell them to look at Beechwood this year versus previous years. Beechwood's line is too inexperienced and too small to hang with the big schools this year. I don't believe CCH punted once in the game.

For the CCH fans who may be interested in a Beechwood fan's view of their team, the thing that impressed me the most today was their defense. Excellent game plan that took away a lot of things that Beechwood likes to do. I would say the CCH defense impressed me more than any of the defensive teams I have seen, including Highlands. Offensively, I am not sure CCH is quite good enough yet. Obviously they did what they wanted today against Beechwood, but so has every team Beechwood has played. If I compare CCH with Beechwood's other opponents, I don't see the weapons offensively for CCH that I have seen with other teams. For example, Erpenbeck had a good game but he is probably behind every other QB we have seen except Alford - West, Wilson, Bardo and Walker are all better than him IMO. I think the new CCH staff coached a great game today and have the program headed back in a good direction.

He ran 11 times for 102 yards and 3 TDs.

 

I guess that qualifies as a "good game."

When you see that and more every week out of the opposing QB, unfortunately it is hard to call it much more than a good game. I was impressed with Erpenbeck's accuracy throwing the ball. On the running side, he runs straight up but no one got a good shot on him and he broke several tackles ... but Walker was even more impressive last week running it and broke even more tackles on more runs. Beechwood's defense has a major problem tackling right now so like I said, I have seen running backs and QB's break numerous tackles every single game and scrimmage. I think the one QB Beechwood has played that I might take Erpenbeck over would be Walker because Erpenbeck is better throwing the ball than Walker. But Walker is such a good runner it is a tough call.

180 rushing/225 passing against Lasalle leads me to the opposite conclusion that you might come to.

I agree. Eric Dickerson ran straight up too and ran straight up right on into the Hall of Fame if I am not mistaken. The style comment was mainly just that because it looked unusual and like I said, no one ever got a good straight shot on him and he broke tackles so if it works then roll on. None of the QB's we have seen are one dimensional, including Walker. He made some nice throws against Beechwood. Actually, the most one dimensional QB Beechwood has seen is Bardo because he ran very little - but he didn't need to run because he sat in the pocket as long as he wanted untouched until his receivers got open. There are quite a few very good QB's in N. Ky. this year.

I thought this would have been a closer game then it was.

Improving CovCath wallops Beechwood

 

After opening the season 0-3, CovCath has won two straight games and shown signs of adjusting to its new coach’s system.

 

“You’re not going to ever get a 2-3 coach to say he’s happy where he’s at,” said Wirth, whose team is ranked No. 7 in the Enquirer coaches’ poll. “But I’m happy with the progress we’ve made recently. A lot of the questions we’d get before and after plays in practice earlier this season really aren’t there anymore.”

Based on the two common opponents of Ryle and Beechwood, I'd say this game will be as close to a pick em as it gets. Dixie may have the slight edge being at home. I expect another shootout similar to last year. I know one thing for sure, the winner of this game just about locks up a home playoff game. IT'S HUGE.

No need to discuss this game for the sake of our friends at Beechwood and I honestly mean that! CovCath won and that is all that needs to be said after this game! Win with class lose with class!
