If its determined he punched the girl there's only one acceptable option. Remove him from the team for a minimum of the rest of the season. If UK decides he needs to removed permanently I'd back them up.

This is not what kids do! Im not saying this kids future should be shot just from this incident, but this should carry some very hefty consequences. This type of thing is starting to happen way to often among college athletes and the message needs to be sent this will not be tolerated. Seems like America is becoming a place where people can do whatever they want as long as they say that their afterwords. Its really scary to me.
