I was wondering if many schools have a problem with freshman and jv games getting dropped. Rockcastle cancelled their game with Boyle frosh scheduled for next week and I know they had several cancelled mid-season last year. Does this happen everywhere? How does this teach your team to be committed?

Some teams may just not have the players to play, it is a numbers game and if you can't take 11 to the game you don't have enough to play.

At Somerset we've had 2 cancelled in a row. Wayne County cancelled this week and Russell County cancelled next Monday. Although I do understand that Lynn Camp is going to take Russell's place.

The Coaches Listserv is flooded with teams needing Freshmen and JV games due to cancellations, so I would say it it happening a lot.

Partially the reason, along with the fact that several kids may have to be playing varsity that would normally be playing freshmen or JV, coaches cannot pre-determine who has to step up and play.

It happens more as the year goes on-Injuries cause players to be moved up to varsity and JV teams. I know it might be a little more trouble- but to solve the problem schedule teams that have solid programs and they will not cancell on you. It is very frustrating to the young guys to practice all week and then not have a game.

In Northern Kentucky, there are a few teams that have a reputation for canceling JV games against teams if they lose at the varsity level...especially against rivals.

I certainly hope that's not why Rockcastle pulled out.

Rockcastle has never been a program to duck anyone so this is probably the case. I just hate it for our younger guys who need reps also.

I agree completely. Football is supposed to teach teamwork and sportsmanship...talk about teaching the wrong lesson. We used to try to use our inadvertent "weeks off" to schedule additional JV games against Highlands. Win or lose - a good tough game against the likes of Highlands does nothing but develop underclassman into better players.
